    The results are in!
Based upon the OP's supplied internal dimensions, the Faital and the LaVoce are very close. WinISD calculates the net volume as 59.80 litres and with those two ports, the tuning is 60.06Hz.  LaVoce is mauve line, the Faital is orange. Input power 180W. Both are very loud.

See graphs for transfer function, power handling and cone excursion.

    Faital Pro 400 neo £179.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this, that's super useful! 🙏

To my uneducated eye, they do look VERY similar! So much so that the £50 cheaper LaVoce is probably more appealing, although the Faital is Neo so would be a weight saving.... Not that it's an especially heavy cab anyway.

Would still love to find the source of this noise first, just to make sure it is the speaker and not something weird with the enclosure 😅

  2. I have to say, the Djent preamp is SICK! I'm still playing with it to see if I can get the settings right for it to be useable for me in the band, but it's an incredible distortion! The ZNR is really useful in conjunction with any of the drives too, I've just left it at default settings but works really well as a noise gate.

Cheers. Im still 50/50 whether i really need it, but as it’s cheaper than the BDDI i would have ended up getting, and covers my other need for an interface that works with my ipad for home practice (covered in another thread) it seems a reasonable price to pay.

Exactly, I mainly wanted it for the Darkglass emulators, so it's cost effective anyway and has a bunch of other cool stuff. Still haven't got my sounds quite how I want, but getting there. I had ditched my drive pedals off my board, but may yet reintroduce one or both.

Just ordered mine from Bass Direct. According to the manual it can be bus powered, this swung it for me.

Awesome! Hope you like it. I had a wobble last week, but it is a really good unit TBF. A good middle ground between quality of sounds, flexibility and ease of operation I think. 👌

  5. Okay folks, so internal dimensions are H574 x W434 x D267mm. Ports are 102 ID x 152mm long.

Just been looking at it again, and the 'ambient' noise seems to have gone....? There is still a buzzing when played, most noticeable at low volume. Doesn't seem to happen on higher notes, or not as noticeably, worst on anything below open E string.

I've checked for anything loose but can't find anything. It does seem like it could be something loose, but definitely seems to be the actual speaker. Can't find any damage to the cone or suspension... Puzzling.

It sounds really good apart from this infernal noise! 🤬

The Pulse 15 is best suited for use in a very large box, at least 200 liters. In a box the size of yours, or what I think is the size of yours as you haven't posted it, it's going to be boomy. My preference for a reasonably priced fifteen for average size ported cabs is the LaVoce WXF 15.400. It's not boomy, and it has higher sensitivity and mechanical power capacity than the Pulse 15.

Sorry Bill, I will try to measure it later. Just having a quick Google, it seems to be pretty hard to get hold of the LaVoce in the UK...

  7. Hi folks, bit of an update:

I've noticed that 'noise' is coming from the speaker all the time, any vibration/air movement in the house is causing the sound, it's a bit like putting your ear by a chimney. I'm assuming then that something is wrong with it, maybe the voice coil I guess?

The guy selling the Faital has stopped responding to messages, but I was starting to have second thoughts about buying a second hand speaker anyway. In the meantime, I've emailed Dave Green at Ashdown, and he's recommended a Celestion Pulse 15 as being a great replacement for this cab. Anyone here got any experience with them/thoughts on this?

    Thanks,

    Oli

  8. I asked Zoom EU the other day if there are plans to update Guitar Lib for B2 Four compatability, and also whether an Android version of the app would be coming soon, and this was the reply:

As we know Guitar Lab will not be opened for the B2. Only Handy Guitar Lab for B2 can handle this at the moment, unfortunately we are not informed if an Android version is planned.

We currently don´t have any information about the plans for updates and follow ups.

I'd say it sounds like they're ditching the whole thing, as someone else said, it hasn't been updated for a few years, and none of the newer models can interface with it.

Whether this means they're working on something else better is anybody's guess (reviews for the iOS app are pretty poor).

Obviously, or you wouldn't have asked the question. But more than a few of us here use it, some of us almost on a daily basis.

Thanks Bill. Well, if anyone volunteers to help me out with that, I'd be very appreciative! 🙏

Is there someone local to you who can fit a recone kit, including a new voice coil, to the existing driver?

It's a good suggestion, but there doesn't seem to be anyone even vaguely local to me who does it. I've also read some info online that makes it sound like repair would cost far more than replacement, sadly. 😔

Anyone even moderately skilled using speaker modeling software can make a valid recommendation by reverse engineering the box. All they need is the precise internal dimensions. Conversely anyone who makes a recommendation without having done so should be ignored.

I think the recommendation was just based on other people having used that speaker successfully. Apparently the guy works with a lot of audio hire companies that put these drivers in the old TE cabs with good results.

I've never used speaker modelling software and have no idea where to start with it unfortunately.

  12. Hey folks!

Some of you may remember my TE combo refurb/conversion from a few months ago:

I realised after I started using it that there seemed to be a problem with the speaker: there is a weird distorted overtone in use, especially noticeable at low volume, although it does seem to affect sound quality at higher volume too. I was able to remedy it a little by soldering the speaker wires rather than relying on the spade connectors, but it seems to have returned. I can hear it even when using my Ashdown cab stacked on top of this one, so clearly something is awry with it..... It's a shame, because the fundamental sound is really good. I'm assuming it must be the voice coil or something.

So, I've hit a point where I need to seriously consider replacing the speaker (so much for a cheap project eh?!). Clearly I can't buy a direct replacement as they're not made any more.

I've seen a Faital Pro 15PR400 for sale not too far away, and I just wondered if anyone knows whether this would work okay in my cab? I appreciate the cab hasn't been engineered for this speaker, but there's not a lot I can do about that. My little Ashdown has an Eden speaker that someone's put in there, and it sounds great! 🤷

The option recommended by Watford Valves is the Celestion BN15-400s, but that'll cost quite a bit more.

    Any thoughts on this welcome.

    Cheers,

    Oli

  13. Update on the power supply: finally received my power supply from Thomann..... And they've just sent me a bog standard EU>UK travel adaptor... 🤦 Not impressed, but I'll just carry on using the power supply over already been using.

Also having a problem with my B2 Four.... I just can't decide which drive sound I like best! 😅 Oh the first-world problems caused by multi effects! 🤣 Back to the drawing board shortly to try to make some decisions. I'm not as in love with the dark drive as I expected to be, although I do like the dark preamp for my Crunch sound 👌

  14. Hey folks! 👋 😊

I normally manage to remember lyrics for songs alright, but we're learning quite a few new tunes at the moment and I'm struggling. 😅

I've just bought a tablet mic stand holder, and will use our (my wife's) Samsung Galaxy Tab A for my lyrics at rehearsal. Question is, what apps are good?! I've read that some have intelligent auto scroll, which sounds pretty cool!

    Any recommendations people?

    Thanks,

    Oli

Does anyone know if Sandberg make a Superlight 5 string P bass?

I've been searching the web and can't find any indication that they do.

They would absolutely make one for you, as @BassApprentice rightly says. The other option if you just want something that's light by normal standards is to ask for a lightweight swamp ash body. I did this with my Classic Booster 5, and it came in at about 3.7Kg for the finished bass.

I'm near Wakefield but alas am not likely to be heading vaguely south for the foreseeable future, and unfortunately don't have packaging material either (I'm assuming that the seller isn't selling with a case so it won't just be a case (hah!) of taping cardboard to the outside to protect it). If you can figure out some sort of relay arrangement I might be able to do the first leg and take it as far as say Manchester or Mansfield. I assume you'd also want someone to give it a once over to make sure it's as described?

Thanks for the offer! I'll see how it goes and let you know.

Yeah, he doesn't have a case or any packaging materials..  🙄

It's a cheap bass as a project, so I'm not TOO worried about it having a thorough once-over.

  17. Hey folks! 😊

Just a quick question on the off-chance anyone can help me out: I've seen a bass I'd quite like on FB marketplace, but it's in Wakefield and I'm in Hereford.... That's a 7-8 hour round trip, depending on traffic.

The seller isn't willing to ship. He's not willing to package it up for me to arrange a courier to collect. He's not up for meeting me part way, even a little bit.

Soooo.... I just thought I'd see if there's any BCers in that area that might be willing to help me out? Either to grab the bass and package it up for me to have collected, or to meet me part way. Or if I'm really lucky, someone might travel towards the west midlands for work 😅.

    Thanks!

Last night’s gig was one I never anticipated, wanted, but felt compelled and eventually pleased to do. My son died three weeks ago suddenly from a second heart attack a week after having stents for the first one, seems the surgeon did half a job. Julian was 46, three kids, fitness fanatic, my best friend, top DJ and drummer

Today was his funeral. His widow had booked an acoustic duo for the wake in the local pub. However, the girl singer had to leave early for some reason; the landlord knew I played and pointed me out to the remaining guitarist/singer suggesting I might help, so as my gear was in my car I played bass and sang with him for the second set.

It was good distraction therapy, busking 15 numbers I’d never played before with a guy I’d never met. Despite this glimmer of light in a dark, dark day I’ll never be able to rationalise why I’m still here at 74 to write this while he will never read it.

Parents shouldn’t have to bury their children...

So sad to read this, I can't imagine what that must feel like. Sincere condolences to you and your family ❤️

  19. Seems like an oversight not to have guitar lab/Tonelib compatibility, and also no android app (although looking at the reviews of the G2 one in Play store, maybe we're not missing anything 😅). Hopefully they will address this.

It's not an issue for me as I don't have any patches I want to port across. I also find the UI on the pedal simple to navigate and set my sounds up, so the lack of software support isn't an issue, however it seems like a glaring omission which will certainly put some people off.
