Oooffff what a stunning bass Keith fabulous woods and I love the shape too. The Irving Sloane tuners alone are probably £ 600.00.

BTW Keith is a top bloke and a great person to do deals with. So have no fears his gear is always in great condition

Thanks Laurence, hope you're keeping well.

How well does it work with fretless bass guitar? Maybe you don't need the electric upright after all 🙂

I've not tried it with fretless, I don't need to as I prefer playing upright these days.

Thanks for that - any particular reason why do you don't use it any more? I'm guessing that with a decent pickup/amp setup an IR isn't really worth it for live situations.....

I mostly play double bass now but on the odd occasion I use a Yamaha SLB I get a good enough sound without the IR's.

Finding the above video has introduced me to IR loaders (something that I was previously unaware of). As I'm skint, I'm wondering about using the TC IR Loader (about €140) with some upright bass IRs through my existing amp - has anybody else tried doing this? It seems like a promising way of enhacing the sound of the piezo output from my DB....

I've been experimenting with double bass IR's for some time using a Mooer Radar. I'm not really using it anymore so might consider selling it including a few dozen IR's I've collected.

  5. Hoping to move house soon and need to de-clutter.

Fast approaching 71 I'm still doing a few gigs but mainly on my Yamaha.

I Probably need to sell 3 uprights.

First up is a 2008 Jay Haide, Ifshin Violins, Berkeley. Ca.

    Lovely red varnish, slim neck.

Prefer collection in Harrogate but could possibly meet up within reasonable distance.

    Elixir nickels?

Thanks, just ordered an Elixir C string to try. They don't come in a set and the C string is the worst offender, although if I like the C I'll probably get the other 5.

Here to advocate La Bella White Nylons. I've got the Copper which are quite warm but the White are brighter, bonus is no finger noise and they come in standard and medium scale.

I'm a big fan of La Bella nylons, I have a spare 4 string set somewhere

but they might be to thick for the nut.

  7. After longing for one of these beauties for a few months I finally got one. On the day it was delivered I became ill and hardly touched it for the first two weeks.

Most BTB's are 35" scale, I wanted something shorter for playing chords, this is 33". It's very comfortable to play seated, seems ok standing and balances well.

The strings are D'Addario NYXL and are a bit too bright for my liking. Can anyone recommend something warmer sounding that would fit?

The picture doesn't do it justice, it's much nicer.

  8. Hi Jimmy,

sorry only just seen this post.

The bridge saddles are staggered with the E saddle being about 1/4" further from end of fingerboard than the G saddle

I think you'd struggle to get the intonation spot on, but then it's fretless so if you adjust your technique accordingly it might be ok, after altering the nut of course.

It's a great instrument, I used it on quite a few gigs, mainly sitting.

    Hope this helps
