  1. that was good to hear.

listened with headphones, and then went and got my fancy studio monitor cans to hear even better...

to my ears the '71 is fatter in the bottom, which makes it a wee bit more flabby. the Moollon sounds more even string to string and is slightly more punchy... all of which could be down to the age of the strings!

I may be overstepping my knowledge here, but that neck joint merely looks to me like the final polish of both neck and body was done with neck on. Just a bit gunky and easily resolved. You’re right to be annoyed after what it cost you, but it looks like you have a really nice bass there. I would enjoy it, wear it in and get that gloss dulled ASAP. 🤘

looks normal to me. It looks like what I expect a quality nitro finish to look like. I’m convinced the matt fender style nitro is as much about saving the cost of polishing, and risk of possible rub through than anything else.

I wish them ^^^^ well, Lefty!

Had a WhatsApp discussion today with some of the worship band roster members, wondering if under the new rules we can ‘do a Beatles’ and record some songs (for upcoming services) outside and socially distanced?

Although we’re all willing to have a go, the  big stumbling block is that all the sound tech stuff (desk etc) at both venues is hardwired in, so it’d be a big job to shift and set up. Our own amps aren’t too problematical of course

Anyone else thought of this, and if so any ideas to make it happen more easily?

Check - but I think you can record inside the building As long as all the risk assessments are done, you are socially distanced and only one person sings.

i think we’re planning on playing and streaming live

Looks like we have  have a similar pillar drills Luke

nutool or something., made in Doncaster I think... but someones stuck a new 240v motor on the back. I needed to drill 30 really accurate holes in a banister - at the time I only had a plug in SDS drill so the argument was that buying that pillar drill for £75 or whatever was worth it as it would still be worth that much when I didn't need it. It's nice though! Putting it in the car was fun, we put the stand in first so it was just behind the drivers seat - hadn't considered the fact that that left most the weight hanging off behind the rear axle ... a very odd drive accross Bradford ensued.

A few years ago I was thinking along the same lines. I was playing with an acoustic guitarist and an original rock and roll band so when a "double bass sounding" Rob Allen bass came up I jumped at it.

IMO it sounded pretty fantastic and perfect for both bands. The only reaction I got was indifference, and lukewarm indifference at that! I sold it shortly after and neither band noticed I'd changed back.

My main basses are a P bass and a Jazz so they fit in anyway, but that's the first and last time I spend money on trying to get a better fit for any band.

that's actually a really sad story

Very good point! I once turned flicked the power switch and mimed a song at rehearsal, many years ago. Got the same complaint-

"Well, it's completely f*cking OFF, so you work out where it's coming from!" Heat duly shifted.

I’ve done that before. Been miming some crazy flea impression with the bass off....playing with my teeth....“can you turn it down”

Plus one to the utter rubbish of referring to one's bass as 'she'. I'm not sure if it's more sexist, creepy or plain weird. Makes my skin crawl. (Same in the case of those idiots who refer to boats, ships and cars as 'she'.) Whenever I've referred to my basses as 'he' in revenge, I've been immediately corrected - bl**dy foreigner that I am - and told it's IT in English, not HE. Oh, really? 🤦‍♀️

Short scale only for wimmin - heard that, never took any notice. BUT:
    - Petite lady? Get a Jazz bass, the neck is lovely and thin, you'll be fine. (Forget about the horrible, misshapen, heavy-as-hell body, though, will you).

    Heh. 9_9

Sexism in music is a whole other topic...

  8. The truss rod cover was a very early and very expensive way they designated either custom instruments or ones for special players (eg jack Bruce). It’s a massive slab Of mother of Pearl and goodness knows how much the materials would have cost.
so factory fitted early “custom” bass - what we think is custom (we being John me and HP wilfer via email) is the pickups and bridge saddles.

it’s a lightweight one, under 9lb as John said and for a short horn one (“I designed it wrong” HPF wilfer told me) it balances well.

the tone is amazing, bell like Piano tones which is a bit more open and less compressed that a typical Thumb bass - which makes it a bit more versatile.
It was my ultimate dream bass and I only sold it as I was playing my other Warwick more regularly in the band.
