  1. Update on my olympia flats

i depped with a 60's Band on friday night and used my 70's Vintera Jazz Bass strung with the olympia Flats

absoloutly no problem they sounded great for this Genre of music and felt comfortable to play all night

far less tension than the La Bellas ive used in the past.

so for me a bargain . il leave them on and monitor there performance.

  2. Yea Flats are an investment i rarely change them , they seem to imrove and mellow out over time and use.

the only time i usualy put a new set on is when i buy a instrument and change the strings before doing a set up

this is the case with the olympias, i have just bought a Vintera Jazz   strung with roundwounds and want to try it  with flats

i have 3 fender p basses 2 strung with Thomastiks a 51 jap re issue and 62 mex re issue and the other a 57 classic ressiue with a set of Maruszcyk flats

they all sound good to me and are comfortable playing wise , The Thomastiks are lower tension , the Marusczyks are slightly tighter but not as high tension as the La Bellas.will be intersting to see where the olympias sit in comparison.

  3. Yea i have tried and used most brands of flats over the years , la Bella Thomastik , Ernie ball Rotosound , D addario , Fender etc

i recently tried Maruszczyk Flats which are good value at £26 from Bass direct . just thought id try these , and see if they match up to any of the strings ive used previously. il let you know my findings when ive tried them

    regards

  8. These are great basses, with a very wide tone pallet , very well built with good quality hardware and great looks.

    fully adjustable bridge And nut.

i strung mine with thomastik short scale flats  JF324 which fit perfectly.

if you need a case the hofner verythin case is a perfect fit.

if i didnt already have one i would snap this up, its a absolute bargain!

  9. What gauge size of plectrums are  you using

i find the large triangular picks better for more involved or faster bass lines

but im having trouble finding any on line, they all seem to be the standard size

    anyone know of a supplier

    Regards

  10. Try Maruszcyk F4 flats    45/65/85/105

they are lower tension than the la bellas but higher tension than the thomastiks

they sit somwhere in the middle.

but do sound brighter than la bellas or thomastiks available from bass direct £22 a set

    well worth a punt.

  11. I have a 57 re issue precision strung with la Bellas 52 /110  hi tension

a standard mex precision strung with Thomastik 43/100 low tension

both are fine for me , i love the la bellas &  thomastiks, but they are expensive.

i would say The marusczyk flats are  somewhere in between the two  for tension.

and sound pretty good to me , i havent used them live yet as only had them a couple of days

well worth a try at thier price point.
