  1. Quite a lot of the usual cover band staples on here are strong contenders for my worm sandwich list i.e I'd rather eat one than play any of them again. However, Bohemian Like You is head and shoulders way above any of them in a list of songs that I hate. I absolutely loathe everything about it and have never understood why anyone would want to hear it; I hated it from the first time I listened to it and played it in a band.

Brilliant gig on Saturday at The Plough in Shrepreth. Good turn out, some lovely comments from the audience and staff and being not far from home. I had lots of friends and family in; which is always nice.Very good friendly venue; a great local pub that prides itself on on being a proper music pub- nice stage, good house PA and an owner who also knows his way around a desk; he did a great job on the sound while running a busy bar and looked after us really well. He also happens to stock some great beers and Mrs C was driving !

We had a great time one of the best pub gigs I’ve played.

I'm surprised we made it all the way to page two before the inevitable "the Beatles weren't all that" comments started...

All I did was post a light hearted paraphrase of an Alan Partridge quip and off it all went.  It's as if they'd said that they were bigger than Jesus or something... Oh hang on.

BTW I like the Beatles; There I've said it.

Another morning after the night before post for you

My mob Yellowhouse played the Essex Riviera with a dep singer. She's done a couple of gigs with us over the last few months with us and it's getting better each time.

I think this is the best bit of video I've ever seen of my lot. The sound is great and the vocals are immense. It's an old Skunk Anansie song which I've always wanted to play and Susie blows the doors off here....

(Cort A4, Orange 4 Stroke, Laney Digbeth pre on the tube setting and a couple of Barefaced Big Baby cabs for the geeks)

    Very nice vid.

I like those Cort A basses

  5. I glued the scratch plate, replaced the pickup and controls with a Mexican Player loom that I had and added copper shielding to the control cavity. I’m very  pleased with the result. Plays very well, after a quick truss rod tweak and has a great Precision thump with the ancient but pretty much unplayed Elites that have been on it since it was stored in a cupboard for years. Best bargain bass that I’ve owned!

This here bass will now be open to offers, over the last 5 years I’ve had some great support from Alzheimer’s Scotland and my local Carers Centre….both charity based so it’s time to give something back. Money will be split between both charities, 👍

What a kind and generous thing to do. Have a bump and good luck with the sale.

Is this the model with the funky 3D neck plate.

If it is I have the fretless version and it's actually a very nice bass.

The scratchplate is significantly different in shape to a generic P so an eBay replacement is out of the question anyway. I know you weren't heading down that route, but just in case you were considering it.

It is that very one Maude, yes it is a nice bass. Thanks for the heads up re the scratch plate I did momentarily toy with changing it but definitely won't now.

...if the broken piece can rotate at all then that end screw/hole is in slightly the wrong position - likely reason for the break is that end piece was under stress, and broke with a knock to the jack plug in place

So mending the plate is only half the job - the end screw hole needs to be carefully refilled and a new hole drilled exactly where that plate hole has 'moved' in the fix (likely less than a mm)

That's a good point. There is a slight gap in the crack too and it runs just under the jack socket washer. I'll have a play with it and post the result.

Uninstall the pickguard and every thing mounted to it, clean the surface on each side of the crack with some ethanol, then glue it together with thin super glue (you'd only want a thin layer just covering the surface on one side of the crack, and be careful to put it right together the first time), pressing the surfaces together for a minute or so before leaving it to letting it cure for 24 hours on a flat surface (yes super glue cures in a matter of a few minutes but it takes up to 24 hours to bind fully at maximum strength).

Thank you, that sounds like a plan.

  10. I dug this out of the back of a cupboard. It plays very well, was almost still in tune and sounds pretty good, so I thought I might resurrect and upgrade it. I have Tonerider pickup and some Mex P electrics somewhere in a drawer which I might fit, as I don’t really want to spend much on it. I originally got it from my brother as swap  for a leather jacket back in the ‘80s.

Anyway I like the way the scratch plate has faded slightly  so any suggestions what I can use to repair the crack with ? I don’t mind if it isn’t perfect cosmetically.IMG_2817.thumb.jpeg.bed3ad95bf05a00e6b410dae23d4ab13.jpegIMG_2818.thumb.jpeg.d79676bc66071395ec3b862d128d501a.jpeg

I'm not sure I'd want to haul that up and down through the lift hatch too often either!

RP's a monster. The left hand is pretty straightforward, but I can never get the right hand technique working.

    He sure was.

He also did a clever left hand thing, which I'll not even attempt, certainly with all those 16ths ! I saw a vid explaining how he fretted a note with one finger and muted with another on the same hand while playing those fast runs.

  13. “It’s not you it’s us; we don’t like  you.”

Still waiting for an opportunity to use that line to fire a band member.

However, in this situation I think an honest, quiet conversation, probably not by text, is the best option. Might be a quick one, but better to be upfront with her.

  14. Most of my prejudices are based on aesthetic features:

    Single cut basses

Coffee table finishes, often goes with the above.

    Relic’d basses

    Headless basses.

The look of Alembics, apart from John Entwistle explorer one, although I’m sure they’re superb basses, if a bit extortionate.

    Ditto Wal and Warwick shapes.

I play four and five string basses but have never felt the need for a six.
