  1. Excellent - thanks, Mrs. Pook does seem quite excited by the idea of playing synths, etc. using this as an interface. I plumbed our electronic piano into a Mellotron VST for her a while back and she loved it
  2. That's good to know, thanks. I think we'll be doing some research over the weekend.
  3. Very interesting. Mrs. Pook used to play sax, still has one, but the noise factor in a terraced house can't be ignored. She's quite interested in a sax version, after me showing her this. Thanks for the tip 👍
  4. I watched it, although I'm by no means a Metallica fan. Quite difficult, I found. A lot of the time I felt quite sorry for them.
  5. I just fitted my first set on a Spector, and good God... ...everything said about them is true. Superb sounding strings. I may be a convert.
  6. I have a Ruzizao 30V 5A bench psu and it works admirably.
  7. A Spector Doug Wimbish. Absolutely no need for it, but the idea of a jazz width Spector is very seductive. In black, obvs.
  8. Gemini Pickups - great pickups and very helpful. https://www.geminipickups.co.uk/
  9. I used to miss playing bass if I couldn't for some reason, and quite excited about getting back to it - after a holiday for example. Sadly no more. I play bass most days, more often as 'something to do', it feels, rather burning desire to make music. I feel a lot of the love I had is gone these days. So it goes.
  10. Very much agree - muzak is exactly what it reminds me of. Astoundingly good musicians, without doubt, but definitely not something I'd choose to listen too. No 'hate' though, just the sound of me walking by.
  11. It's all very well, but I suspect Joe Dart would sound like Joe Dart even if he played my washing line with some socks on it. EDIT: The faux Super8 video made me chuckle. See how authentic it is
  12. I use D'Addario EXL170 s on mine - good solid tone to my ears.
  13. The build books are a nice idea.
  14. I just stick to make and 'old' or the colour if needed - so, 'The black jazz' or 'The old Spector'...no actual names. But now I'm thinking...am I saying 'The black jazz' or 'The Black Jazz' ? I can't tell. Maybe they do have names after all.
  15. I haven't, no...but the best pick is the one you feel comfortable with. If the larger ones give you a secure grip then go for it. I've always used smaller 'guitar' ones, but it's horses for courses.
  16. Looks like a fun project. Keep it as unscientific as you like 👍
  17. I'm impressed with Malta, good turn out for half a million people. Turkey's cheating though...
  18. The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Or Pee-Nass as it's known in the trade Yeah, librarians can be childish too...
  19. I'm married and I have a ring, but I never wear it, so no issue !
  20. The guitarist has been in contact, seeing if I want to 'jam' with this drummer. I don't see how you can 'jam' mathrock so this suggests to me that he's not nailed the songs properly. If there's a bass amp for me to use, I might go along for an hour. I feel like I should give this chap a (brief) crack of the whip... ...although a very large part of me feels it'll be a waste of time. Having trouble letting go, I guess.
  21. This, it really is the only way. Acknowledge that she's tried and gave it her best shot, but that what she's doing isn't working out. I find it best to focus on what they're doing rather than saying she isn't a good fit. Good luck, never an easy thing to do.
