    Never ever buying anything from BassDirect again. Purchased a Tech 21 YYZ pedal through their reverb store, paid for it and then got a message saying it's out of stock and been refunded but my refund will take 3-5 days to process which means I'm out of pocket until then and can't go purchase one somewhere else until that money is back in my account.

      Yup, free advertising.  All the shops do is stick products on there with a decent markup on their shop price, and the idea is people go to the shop for the best price.  Shame they don't remember to take the listings down, but yeah the Gallery is by far the worst for it.

      The Gallery had instruments listed on Reverb that I know sold over 12 months ago....

      Yeah, the refund rules are Reverb, not Bass Direct.  It's on Bass Direct for not updating Reverb stock though.   Out of interest, why did you use Reverb?

    45-105 or 40-100 ?

     

    I've always played 45-105's but I was thinking of trying 40-100's, is there that much of a distinguishable difference between the two gauges?

      Sure, but neck relief shouldn't differ between guages, so if relief did change you would need to move the truss rod to bring it back.  The lesser string tension at the same action would cause fret buzz, so usually you end up needing higher action.

      Your action was lower with a lighter guage?  I usually find the opposite due to the lesser tension.  In E standard my preference is certainly the 100's

      Hopefully you'd notice a difference in how it plays, otherwise indeed, why bother!  I doubt at a gig you would notice what a high quality DI is doing to your tone.  Or, at least, id enjoy some blind sound tests to see if people are noticing what they think they're noticing :D

      I do get confused when I see these on pedalboards.  I get why one would be great in a studio, but its surely a complete waste for live use.  There's no PA in the land that'll recreate the subtle differences you'll get using this over any number of cheaper preamps. And even if there was, what punter will notice!

    UPS delivered a bass I'd sold & it's turned up damaged. Today was going so well!

      The insurance should cover it provided it was in a hardcase and you have photos before posting.  Such a source of anxiety, I haven't shipped a bass in a number of years, always jump in the car.
