please help
Looks like a cheapo Kent or a Norma both specialised in strange versions of violin basses and junk semis, I think they were made in the same far east factory and rebadged. I had a Norma violin bass and the pickups looked like these.
There used to be a site caled fetishguitars and one called bizarreguitars, you may be able to find via Google.

  2. Hi I'm looking for a bit of help, I'm having a bass made for me and I need to know the dimensions of Status 5 string bass necks, I've owned both Shark and Groove basses and love the string spacing, width, shallow depth and profile. Its a long shot but could some kind soul send me some accurate measurements please? What I need is nut width, width at 12th and body joint area, profile (never been able to work that out would it be a shallow D profile?), depth and string spacing at nut, and bridge. I'd really appreciate any help I can get with this. :)

  3. I'm trying to raise funds for a custom build project so this has to go unfortunately! Its a Made in Japan Jazz bass and dates from the mid 90s. The bass has the nicest 60s Jazz neck I've ever played although I think the nut may be a replacement as the slots aren't cut low enough for my tastes. The action however is great and the trussrod works properly. The bass has a really dark rosewood fingerboard and white dots, the lacquer has that lovely vintage amber patina to it. The hardware and pickups are all original and the pickups sound great although the tone pot doesn't do much (think the wiring looks tidy enough. The cavity has an earthing plate in it and an earthing strip runs from the bridge to the treble pickup - very 60s! The bass is ultra light I suspect it is made from basswood as were nmany of the fotoflame series. The body as you can see has plenty of dings around the edges and bucklerash. The foto flame effect was achieved by literally sandwiching a film-like veneer under a thin layer of lacquer (tons of info in Google land about this process). It looks pretty authentic but was prone to cracking and this one is no exception as you can see. Some basses had the necks foto flamed too - fortunately this one hasn't - and on the necks you could just about make out a McDonalds Hamburglar face in the 'flame'. Legend has it that the employee who came up with this as a visual joke was fired from Fuji Film! Anyway the body has these flaws as pictured using a flash to show them up more. I've got to say that this does not have an effect on what is a lovely playing and sounding bass. Don't know if this is a rare one but you certainly don't see many about! This is a feeler to see if there is any interest really. Looking for 295 for a quick sale thanks.

I'm still ope to trade ideas too, not sure if there's anything of suitable value I fancy, but I'm all ears.
Pity your not posting, not much to trade at mo ... badass 2 bridge? Bashed in effects units?

  5. This is a nice example of a Korean built Squier Jazz from the 90s it was probably built in the Samick factory as it has an 'S' prefix serial number and the slightly smaller metal control plate. Its in very good condition with a few minor dings here and there and the usual small laquer cracks near the cutaways at the neck but these are cosmetic. It has faded and where stickers have been removed there are slightly darker areas again cosmetic. Frets are good and it sounds like a Jazz bass, easy action and balance currently strung with new flats. I bought this recently as a stand in whilst my Fender was being set up but its never been used and surplus to requirements. 150 GBP posted - in UK only or 135 picked up. iPhone pics I'm afraid but they give the right idea.....

  6.
Sorry but that's not an early model. The early ones had carpet covering and didn't have the large green 12 (or 15 if it had the 15 inch speaker).
Oh right, I assumed the tolex ones were earlier editions similar to the AH line of combos, still could be abargain!

  7.
That was with a Fender Urge Mk1 (32" Scale) - Running the bass in active mode but with bass and treble at the mid 'Flat' positions and the main switch in the 'Unscooped' position. Mainly using the Jazz pickups, about 2/3 Bridge, 1/3 neck. But flipping to the 'P' pickup on occasions.
Here's one on ebay, an early one too - nothing to do with me but they will deliver so got to be worth a punt!

  8. Hi I have owned my TE AH130 for years and it was my main amp in the studio until just over a year ago when it developed a massive buzz/hum noise. I took it in for repair at my local music shop anyway after nearly a year I picked it up today and paid 144 quid for the work, got home plugged it in and ...... it's still buzzing! In all fairness to the shop they send gear out for repairs so not an issue with them but has anybody out there had similar problems with Trace Gear of this era (its tolex covered so GP7SM series)? The buzz is so intrusive its like having a giant fridge being amplified by a PA and yes I have tried other leads, cabs, outlets, I A-B tested it with my very ancient Carlsbro amp and my Markbass and they had none of this. I have emailed the shop but wondered if anyone knew of a solution? So far this has been a very expensive waste of time! Cheers

  9. Its one of my lovely old Gibson Grabbers, this one is a 70s one with maple neck. The scratchplate has been replaced as the original was warped although I have kept the slider assembly. The bass was refinished black rather roughly but looks fine given the bass is well gigged! There are dings a plenty but no cracks or anything nasty and the truss rod is fine. Plays and sounds great, through body strung, nice weight. Gone!
