  1. Had my 'growth talk' at work yesterday. A sort of career progression thing that must be really handy for the younger engineers especially.

Boss's first question (admittedly with his tongue firmly in his cheek): "So Rich, where do you see yourself in 5 years..?"

    Me: "Retired."

Boss: "Want to expand your skillset? Anything you'd like to do in the meantime?"

Me: "Exactly what I'm doing now will suit me fine, ta."

    End of talk. :)

I personally enjoy being challenged in my work - I'm always fearful of stagnation and boredom.  Each to his own :)

Can you feed back to them that 40hz centre for Bass control is way too low to be usable as anything but a cut? 😉

I've never used the 900s, but the KZs are great!

  8. And the Prosteels are off, bl@!dy dreadful things, as soon as I put them on half my midrange vanished, curiousity got the better of me and it didn't pay off.

Fresh set of Rotosounds on and wow the Rotos sound so much better, the growl is back and I actually have other frequencies besides low bass and high treble.

I always find steel strings lacking in mids compared to nickels.  Wish I could get on with them but I don't!

To be fair Kev you could say the same about any piece of equipment we use live.  Who will notice the difference between a £100 Harley Benton P or a £4k Pino sig Fender?  After all the compression, EQing, speakers, room etc, both will sound like P Basses.

  10. Ok, tried some Daddario rounds on the Vintera fully expecting them to stay, the TI jazz flats are going back on, flats on this bass just feels and sounds right

Which D'Addarios?  I found the XLs to be a bit too springy on my Jazz Bass.  Heard the NYXLs are a better choice but have yet to try them!

  11. Radio 2 really is the perfect early morning listening...

...'cos if there's one thing guaranteed to get me up and at 'em, out of bed and away from the alarm, it's Zoe fecking Ball's vacuous yakking and her incessant, relentless bloody Strictly fixation.

    SHUT. UP.

I think she's alright actually, as far as they go on that station.  Plays some good tunes too.

  15. Oh the HX Stomp B15 amp model 😍

      acidbass

I love it!  Played a gig last week with it for the first time.  I reduce the Gain to 2.0 or so for minimum breakup, I correct the lower volume then with a simple gain block after it.  Such sweet saturation!

  16. I’m wondering if Labella flatwounds are as good as everyone says 🤔 ...

    1. acidbass

      acidbass

I used the 760FLs for years and recently moved to the 760FS - they are slightly better balanced for me, from E to G.  Great strings!  I have them on a P and a J.

  22. Hi guys quick question. Which flat to choose instead TI Flats? Same clarity and bright sound but more tension are what I need for. Thank you.

    1. acidbass

      acidbass

I also felt the TI flats were too loose for my tastes.  My go-to is now the La Bella 760FL which to me feels more like a roundwound, tension-wise.  For even more tension, check out the Rotosound Jazz 77s.  These for me are actually too tight for standard tuning, however I have them on a bass that's drop tuned half a step and they are perfect.  I'd be interested to try D'Addario Chromes too which seem to be highly rated among flats players.

  23. Guy Pratt's old R*ck 4001 - as played on the live screening of the Saucerful of Secrets gig from the Roundhouse - sounded great and IMHO beat his collection of Fenders, Bass Collection and Warwick. Sacrilege around here but there you go!

  24. Hi. I consider to buy some bass setup tools. I thought about CruzTools and Dunlop tools. CruzTools have even full bass set kit. Did you ever use their tools? Are they a good quality stuff or maby looking somewhere else? Thanks for any advice.

      acidbass

Bought a great Cruztools set a few years ago.  Had everything I needed really for a great setup, except a tuner and radius gauges.  Recommended!

Lovely!  Would love one with tapewounds for recording - bet it would sound ace!  Nice to see the proper bridge as opposed to the ridiculously poor traditional design.
