  1. Oh god, I don’t know how I’d not seen this until just now, and quite by accident. That’s terrible news.

I never met Nick in person but have chatted with him on threads and in private messages over the years. He’ll be missed.

My condolences to his family and friends.

  2. Another smooth transaction with Gavin, this time with him as the buyer. I listed a pedal and tagged him and within an hour he agreed to buy and paid. All easy with prompt and friendly communication. Many thanks.

I'm no Ed Friedland, but here's my attempt at a review of the Noble for those who are curious. Recorded examples with jazz and P bass with various EQ settings, overview of features/specs and honest feedback from using it 'in the field' over the last 18 months:

Examples of the Noble in a full band mix (signal path was bass>Noble>desk, nothing else):

    Great tracks!

Also am now listening to your EP too and really enjoying it.

I would never think to put compressor after envelope.

Why would you want to tame those peaks and valleys?

Give the envelope a nice even tone from the comp, no?

You still get the frequency sweeps but without big volume spikes at high resonance. It can be very useful for taming some of the wilder filters out there such as the Fwonkbeta, Enigma and MF-101.

  5. I had one for quite some time. In fact I think I’ve owned two. I used the Nik West “born again compressor” and loved it when set to about 10-11 o’clock.

    You’re missing v2!

what date roughly will we find out about the new SA thing??

There never was a v2 hardware (it was software only).

Not sure about the new SA as it’s not down to me, but also I wouldn’t be allowed to say, even if I did know. I do know it’s been pushed back six weeks because the selector switch batch that came in had been erroneously manufactured 180 degrees out of phase! Roger confirmed that on The Gear Page a few days ago.

Ignore the silly prices and make a few Stingray specs. Nothing ground breaking on the tool but fun nonetheless, the coloured pole pieces are a nice touch.

They used to have this back in the early 2000s when they had a vastly bigger range of basses, finishes and options. Was gutted they removed it as you could construct a nice big jpeg from it.

Ooh, cool, they’ve brought back the SLO Special nut width!
