  1. Nice work and another interesting and helpful comparison. Both sound good. Wenge, for me, has a fuller, richer sound in the lows with the ovangkol having a little more punch?
  2. I have indeed and, as you say, some lovely Streamers at good prices. Lovely, but not quite what I'm after at the moment.
  3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
  4. The ongoing search for a 90's or 2010 onwards Thumb or Streamer continues. Must be 4 sting and fretted, preferably bubinga pommele body and wenge neck for the Thumb and maple SS1 but happy to consider other variants, particularly on the Streamer. The intention for either (both ideally) is to sit alongside my bubinga Corvette as a burgeoning Warwick fleet. Understandably the market is still a little strange right now, but happy to hear from anybody that might have something they're looking to move on. Thanks.
  5. Apologies for the thread resurrection, but this seems a good place to ask. I've found an old combo cabinet I'm interested in buying (somewhat as an experiment) but it's located about 5 hours away from me so I'm looking to get it collected and delivered to myself by a courier. It's a 1x15 size and is on castors, so was thinking off asking the seller to wrap in bubble wrap and leave the castors exposed. Anybody got any suggestions on whom to use? I've previously had car alloy wheels colected and delivered by Shiply but unsure if theres somebody else Basschatters would recommend?
  6. Bravo! I shall be ordering some from the online store as soon as they're available.
  7. The Thomann price might be a good deal then. Listing for Warwick Masterbuilt Star Bass II Bubinga matural transparent satin (bubinga one of the standard options for Masterbuilt so it seems) http://www.warwickbass.com/en/Warwick---Products--Instruments--Customshop---Masterbuilt--Basic-Bass-Models--Star-Bass--Star-Bass--Star-Bass-4-String--Star-Bass-II-Bubinga--4-string--Pictures.html Click on the buy button takes you to the Warwick online shop... but note this hyperlink then lists a natural transparent high polish finish and not satin This is also a list price of Euro 6,169.00 https://shop.warwick.de/en/detail/index/sArticle/17613
  8. I think it depends on when the bass in question was manufactured. Warwick seem to go through phases with their specifications. Nowadays, the general difference that I can see between Teambuilt and Masterbuilt is that Warwick limit the body woods and finishes available on the Teambuilt, along with the use of Ovangkol necks and nickel silver frets on the Teambuilt vs. Wenge and bronze frets on the Masterbuilt. i.e. they keep the good stuff for the Masterbuilt pricing! Edited to Add: Bronze nut on Masterbuilt vs. Tedur Nut on Teambuilt. If you're referring to this in the For Sale section, the body wood is Pommele bubinga, which would not be available on the current Teambuilt versions. I don't believe you can customise Teambuilt versions either. Certainly the price lists on the Warwick site suggest this is the case but others may know better. Perhaps you could ask the seller to confirm the serial number and then insert that on the Warwick website to confirm the specification and the year of manufacture. Looks a nice bass though...
  9. Still looking for a 90's or 2010 onwards Thumb or Streamer if anybody is thinking of selling.
  10. For the Warwick afficionado who already has, almost, everything... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warwick-Bass-Mirror-Very-Rare/293824224960?hash=item446949dec0:g:zNsAAOSwCKxfqtSh Wonder if the Atari is also available?
  11. Nice. I've never seen the Hellborg Warwick amps and cabs in person. I appreciate they were probably targeting a particular tone or sound, but was (is) the premium pricing reflected in the quality of construction?
  12. Nice work on these comparisons and interesting to hear the subtle differences, so thanks for that. Were the same strings (same type and similar age) used on both the BO and Neck Through?
  13. Ahh, looks light like walnut and I thought you might have gone through the master reserve wood selection since Warwick only seem to offer US black walnut as a custom shop "standard" option . Makes sense now.. Looks a superb piece of Bubinga though, top work.
  14. That looks lovely. Is it a walnut burl top?
  15. I have a serious hankering for acquiring a Thumb or a Streamer to complement my '97 Corvette. (One might call this GAS?). I've prevously borrowed an early 90s neck through Thumb which I loved and had to return, but I've never spent any time with a Streamer. Theres nothing currently in the classifieds here nor on the usual sale sites which are whetting my appetite. Anyone have anything they're contemplating moving on?
  16. That's a lovely finish you've achieved there. Nice work.
  17. Tinglings of GAS after seeing the below demo video (which is also in the OP's listing) led me to search the forums for more info on the Caprice and it seems they are now discontinued. Love that tone. Dare I ask if this is still for sale? I also now need to listen to some Tower of Power...
  18. Exactly this. Thanks for posting the video Mr wateroftyne
  19. This brilliant thread was responsible for this purchase a number of years ago, so it's only fair to give back and expand the information on these interesting basses. Being a 1988 model, my SB301 is an early one. As in other cases of the early units that I've seen there is no mention of Made In Japan on the bass (besides the Gotoh tuners). The Pearl White finish has aged / yellowed through UV damage over time (note where some stickers [presumably] have been removed and the finish is not so faded in certain areas) and there are a couple of knocks through the paintwork here and there. However, this all just adds to the patina of the instrument for me and it's generally in good condition for 30 years old.
  20. I would agree that it's a little too busy with the hardware, visually, for my taste but it does sound well which is the main thing. Interested in the Aguilar super doubles. Also seems like Joe gets a haircut after the first playing sample...
  21. Went browsing the Warwick website and ended up watching a number of videos about this lovely Thumb SC Macassar Ebony top.
  22. Just bought a Warwick user kit from Martyn. Item was exactly as described, in great condition and shipped very quickly. Helpful, polite communications and real pleasure to deal with - thanks!
