  1. I’m wondering if Labella flatwounds are as good as everyone says 🤔 ...

My 760fl set doesn’t feel stiff at all. I can do whole tone (two fret) stringbends easily enough on them, on an old P bass.

They're great strings. I've had a set on my main bass for about five years now, and they were secondhand when i bought them in 2016. They sound great, feel lovely in hand, and appear to be aging gracefully. Mine are the 43-104 gauge 760FLs. Also have the Mustang set on my Mustang and they just sing like an acoustic bass.

  3. My band is learning "It's my life" by Talk Talk, so I've re-learnt it some 36 years after I originally learned to play it :)

  4. Just permanently deleted my Facebook account. It had become pretty much an ads only platform and was of little value to me anymore. So far this feels like a relief.

I did it a few years ago mind so the process might have changed a little. I was prompted by an article online telling you how to do it.

It isn’t obvious because FB don’t want you to do it. I was worried my info would be floating round out there forever after but it does seem to have disappeared, based on none of it coming up if you Google me.

Correct - when you go to delete your account it prompts you vigorously only to make it dormant instead. But if you choose to delete it and then log in again within 30 days (or whatever the time period is) it reactivates. If however you do not log in again it deletes it permanently.

And it does delete it properly too.

  6. Got any 1974 album recommendations? Going through my CDs, I noticed the only ones from that year are Natty Dread and Pick A Dub.

Aerosmith's Get Your Wings?  Kiss's debut album? Queen's Sheer Heart Attack, Deep Purple's Burn?

By that logic though, i might stick a new pickguard on my head to disguise my terrible Lockdown Haircut TM

Definitely. Fickle as I am, a bad pickguard is like a bad haircut and can bring you right down. A new pickguard can reignite my whole enthusiasm for a bass if it suddenly makes it look super cool.

I should think so. A new pickguard can make a bass look cool, make us rich and famous, and attract the opposite sex, so yes I say go for it...

Well done. Yep i deleted mine about four year ago now. My real friends remain in touch with me, the others don't bother. I don't miss it in the slightest, and i loved the extra headspace i suddenly got from not having to check updates or respond to anything.

A very minor middle-finger in the context of mega social media corporations, but a huge victory for my personal wellbeing.

  13. Why is it so hard to find a 4ohm sealed cab in pub friendly size???

    1. bassbiscuits

      bassbiscuits

My Schroeder 1210 is pub sized, and a sealed cab, and 4ohms, and more than loud enough for most gigs.

They're a bit hard to come by tho.

  14. Looking to buy a cheap hard bass case for shipping.

Not sure if this helps, but i made one last week to post a bass within the UK.

Get two strong cardboard bike boxes from Halfords, and an hour or so with a Stanley knife and some gaffer tape.

Cut one of the boxes into an oversized guitar case, and cut the other box into sheets/smaller pieces to reinforce the back, front, ends and create a cradle for the neck/headstock. Pack the rest with crunched up newspaper or bubblewrap, and you'll have a free, very light, very strong container for shipping.

No reason at all. Go for it, and enjoy! I've got a regular MIJ Mustang and its a brilliant bass. The JMJ if anything is cooler still, with upgraded pickups, bigger frets and lollipop tuners.

yes - likewise I've seen them a couple of times over the years (2009ish and 2013ish i think) and they're a great live band.

That is a plan i'm still weighing up - whether to create a new FB account just as me the bass player/singer/musician/painter etc etc, and keep it for professional arts/music stuff, gig dates, videos etc.

But then again i realise the number of people who 'liked' my posts telling them about forthcoming gigs etc didnt actually translate into any of them actually coming along! I'd be better off just texting the people i know who live nearby and might fancy it.

I've ditched Facebook about two months ago, and haven't missed it in the slightest. Saying that, I only really used it as a talking shop with friends, so i keep i touch with them by old fashioned methods like speaking, telephoning or emailing them.

Your instagram stuff looks good tho - nice sunburst P bass too.

      Twas not to be, clearly!

Be interested to hear what you think of Mustangs tho - i love the idea but i've never had a chance to play one yet.

What did you get? A PJ or a regular one? I'm dying to get my hands on one - a CIJ version was for sale near me last week but came and went before I'd noticed. Doh.
