A shout out to my grandson Oliver @Dasbassman who has just signed up here and may be one of the youngest at 13. He's becoming a fine player and also plays guitar and keys (& good vocals). I've pretty much given up gigging now so it's over to Ollie to carry the flag. He's currently playing a cheapo P style 30" Ebay bass through a Peavey combo I found cheap. He's saving for a decent 34", maybe a MIM P or similar. He also plays a US Strat (I helped find that😂) through a Marshall valvestate. I'm going to nag him to get posting now!

Our drummer just sent us a message today; he won't be able to come to any more rehearsals, not for several months anyway. He left our WhatsApp group and refused to give an explanation.
He has been a rock for the last 2 years, always dependable and really committed, so this is all out of the blue. I suspect he may have health or family problems. He doesn't want to talk to me now but he did say "Give me time".
I'm gutted about the band collapsing and also concerned for my friend. It's been a bad day.

Sorry to hear this. I fear your suspicions are right and whatever's going on he probably needs time to digest it all.
I'd give it a few days and then make contact letting him know that you're still there and thinking about him. I'm sure he'd appreciate that and may decide to share whatever his burden is. Stay close though; if he's going through issues he'll be grateful to know you're there and when things get better for him, the band will hopefully be okay too.

Is there anyone near Ross-On-Wye ? There's a "Collection Only" bass I'm interested in , hoping some kind soul could do the middle man job. 700 mile round trip rules this one out 🙂

Big thank you to @Old Horse Murphyfor helping me sort wonky jack socket on my brand new (yes....) Rick 4003S. Took jack plate off his own bass and sent photos to guide me. Top man

First gig with a new group tonight. The other half happened, by chance, to be sitting next to wives of the other band members and she therefore overheard their discussion of "the new bass player". Apparently, they "hope he lasts longer than the last one"...

Furloughed with immediate effect.

Anyone had a £1 max selling offer from eBay this weekend?
-
I was expecting one too. I think they've realised that a) people are using Ebay to sell a lot more because of lockdown and collection only-friendly options are a no no (such as Gumtree) at the moment, and b) people are wanting/needing to sell more.
Possibly a bit disingenuous but clever commercial sense

Another gig bites the dust, and this one hurts... the One Love Festival in Kent, in August. Absolutely gutted. I was really looking forward to this one.

Kelvin McKenzie in the doghouse again then. For saying the families of lost loved ones should sue the Chinese Government. Meanwhile a consortium of businesses in Las Vegas commence a class action against the Chinese Government.
And right now on USA Today, this:
As the coronavirus pandemic sweeps the globe, one fact is increasingly clear: The Chinese Communist Party caused this crisis.
At least the dogs are back in the doghouse in Shenzen. But no doubt they'll be back in the fryer once this sh*tstorm blows over. -
CoronaVirus Gear Sale? - How many of you are considering or are already selling bass gear because of financial losses incurred by not being able to work?
-
Not really as a result of financial losses (yet- hubris and all that) but more of a reality check: do I really need two amps, six basses, all those pedals I'm not using etc. etc.
It's funny, having spent some quality time with my gear for the first time in ages (other than gigging) has really made me think that I really don't need quite as much stuff as I have/had.
Strangely enough, I'm enjoying my music a lot more as a result. Perspective and all that I guess.

Just found out my aunt has died from the Corona virus...

I'm wondering if there are any kind Basschatters in or around Ellesmere Port who are able to help me get a Hohner B2A to Bristol for me. Unfortunately the seller won't post, so if anyone is able to pick it up and post it for me I'd of course pay all costs and for a few beers too

Managed to get the Disco lights working on my P Bass again after about a year of fretting about them. With a bit of luck, a few prayers and a soldering iron all is well

Expecting redundancy news today..... with real trepidation.....

There is something special about the tone of a 2 band Stingray, had forgotten just how good they play and sound. Just lovely.

Slightly unusual question: Does anyone know if there's a place near Banbury I can hire a bicycle?
-
After a supreme effort in getting down to one bass, I've only gone and ordered another one, haven't I? D'oh!
-
Possibly stupid question. Does arrange own courier mean that the seller is always willing to pack the instrument. I'm not missing or assuming something am I? Theres no packing courier service I've been unaware off.
