For sale 2013 as new Musicman Sabre Classic finished in what EB call Sledge, which is a silver metallic, volume, bass, treble, and a 5 way coil selector, very very versatile, lovely figured Birdseye maple board, neck and headstock, 10.5lbs comes with original case and 2 pickguards, blue mirror and black, was purchased 3 months ago, form a shop in Germany it was new when I bought it so had been in the shop since 2012, these are quite rare and sought after. Price includes UK delivery or collection from Berkshire No Trades thanks. NOW SOLD

  3. I bought this off eBay recently as a "rawk" replacement for my Rick but have decided to stick with the latter. So for sale is this amazingly good condition 2015 Gibson SG Standard Bass in Heritage Cherry. Usual 30.5" short scale and weighs a super light, shoulder friendly 7.5 pounds. Note: 2015 was a special one for the SG bass as it came with a number of upgrades which have since been dropped, presumably for cost cutting reasons. These included a Babicz full contact bridge, thicker rosewood fretboard, limited edition gold case and pearl inlays. Pickup from SW13 London (south of Hammersmith Bridge) or post at cost (UK only) via UPS (probably about £30). Comes with case and case candy (certificate of authenticity, case key, truss rod wrench, factory photo, warranty card etc.) Currently wearing Dunlop flats but I can swap out for the stock nickel rounds if you prefer. Firm price of £850, which is what it owes me, and no trades, sorry.

  5. Depped for a Madness tribute near Southampton last night. Was in a big social club with a predictably mixed audience of all ages. Sight read the whole thing, mostly successfully, only second time I've ever done this live. Bugera Veyron T, Barefaced, Bass Centre P. Great fun.

  6. My 66 sunburst is my #1. One of those instances where you pick it up in the shop and everything falls immediately into place. I've had this bass for nigh on 40 years now and it has never failed to delight whenever I play it.

  7. I definitely didn't need another bass - let alone another P bass. But this came up for sale on here, and I decided to go for it. These top-notch basses were made in Mexico, alongside the Roadworn series. I once owned a RW P-bass, and always wished it was this colour - fiesta red 😀 after owning a Squier CV in this colour, it became my favourite. Anyhow, just playing it now - it's super build quality and feels and sounds lovely. The neck is a tad wider than I'm used to, but fairly shallow front-to-back and I'm finding it pretty comfy to play. I may swap the pickguard for a red-tort one - as that would be my fave colour combo.

  8. For sale only (no trades) I recently bought this rather nice, unusual and rare Japanese built Headless bass from @Burns-bass on this forum. I like it a lot, but I've just bought another bass, and I'm sticking to my "one in, one out" rule as I promised Mrs_S on pain of death that I would! Lol It's superb quality as you'd expect from Japan in the 1980's (its 1986, I think?) In great condition with one chip in the paint on the top back edge, about 3mm diameter. Great "thump" sound, fitted with Fender flatwound strings. It came fitted with a set, but I fitted some brand new ones, and I've become a fan of these strings. Set up with a fairly low action. It plays nicely. It has a narrow and shallow neck which is very comfortable to play. It's very light - a shade under 3.5kg if my memory serves me. Also comes with its own Yamaha Hard case made for this model. The case is also in great condition. Collection from Cardiff (or I may travel a bit). Would prefer not to post. Price is firm - this is what I paid for it.... plus you get the new strings. These are pretty scarce in the UK - so grab it before my other stuff sells and I change my mind.

  10. Very reluctant sale as I love this bass, but I only need one these days and my other one gets slightly more play time. I've had this since it was built in 2015, it is parts so I'll list what it's made up of and the cost of those parts Body, control plate, knobs, pickguard, and neck plate are from the very popular squier short scale jaguar, was about £220 for the original bass, so say about £120 for those bits Neck is made by the brilliant luthier Jon Shuker and was about £350, excellent quality neck, most stable of any bass I've owned, perfect fretwork, great finish, and Jon made a nice brass nut for it. It's got carbon fibre reinforcement rods, and dual action truss rod that's fully working and very smooth. 50 year old Indian rosewood fretboard. Truss adjustment is at the heel like an old Fender. Schaller lightweight tuners were £90 DiMarzio model p and j pickups were £90 Wiring and pots were installed by Jon Shuker, don't know what brand he used Gotoh 201 bridge was £35 It's got Dunlop strap lock buttons installed. Strung with new D'Addario nickel rounds 40 60 75 100, and I also have two or three spare sets that I'll throw in for free. Scale length is 30.25", action is low and it practically plays itself. The neck dive normally present on this style of bass has been very much reduced by the scale length and bridge/tuner mods, it's not completely gone, but with a good strap it's absolutely not noticeable. Total cost was £685 so £450 seems like a fair price. No case so meet up preferred - Gloucester area but can travel up to an hour away EDIT: Just been asked about the weight, I should have added that originally 😅 it weighs bang on 7lbs EDIT2 - at the out of hours vets with a great big bill, lowering price to help shift this bass EDIT3 - now sold, thanks

  12. I distinctly remember the moment I played one of these in Wunjo in about 2014. I was amp shopping that day, and was extremely sceptical when Laurence handed me the Mike Dirnt Precision - “any amp is going to sound good with something that nice plugged in” I thought. I left with a new Rumble 40, and a nagging sensation that I would never play a neck quite like it again. I actually thought that these were “out of print” but it popped up as available to buy on the Fender website - I had a 10% discount to use as a Fender Play member, and so a browser tab lingered for a few weeks on end. I run a one in one out system, so in anticipation of pulling the trigger I put a bass up for sale (still available I might add!) But this doesn’t end how you think… A cursory search on eBay on Friday morning and I found this bass, for an agreeable price with a seller just a short hop on the train. Result! I picked it up this morning and have only had a couple minutes of unplugged play in between usual weekend stuff, but it is super resonant, and feels like a quality bass. Can’t wait to get it plugged in and hear it roar!

  13. My Mex Special P/J hasn't gone yet, whichever goes first, the other gets kept. This is the one where they came standard with the Custom Shop '62/63? pick up ( I can't quite remember which year). The colour is a pig to photograph and under stage lights can be anything from black to white. Lovely dark rosewood board. Superb condition, sorry, no offers, no trades, this series doesn't come up as often as you might think. Weight 8lb 12oz, original mint green plate, hard case & all case candy included. Sad to see it go but it doesn't get used (I only use Jazz profile necks now). Feedback available, thanks for looking.

  14. So a while ago (edit: turns out it was almost six years ago!) I decided to sell my Stingray 5. It was a great instrument but 5 strings just wasn't for me and besides, I had two other Stingrays. After a while of nobody coming up with the money and rejecting a few trade offers, I somewhat reluctantly accepted a part exchange deal where I was to have most of the money and the rest was paid for in a beaten up mid-nineties Stingray that had been modified. Whatever, I can sell it later and I only 'paid' £400 for it. Instant number 1 status. I don't know whether this tree got some extra sunlight or some extra water or something. Maybe the robots that built it were having a really good day. This bass is just every cliche about 'feeling like home', 'old baseball glove', all that. What's really really telling is that, when other people play a bass of mine, they're always polite and pleasant about the other basses but they positively gush about the red stingray. Also, I apparently have never given it a glamour photoshoot...

Everywhere I looked this afternoon, spread across the work top, bits still hanging off the basses and one dtuner I got on special from hipshot, the last one they had (it was discontinued awhile ago) which had gone missing so most of my spare part/handy bits drawers were out too. I love playing a bit of fretless but I’m still ‘fettling’ my ear so I mainly play fretted and the mk1 is just to nice to be a practice bass. My lovely mk1 is fretless And my pro is fretted Bright spark idea, I’ll swap them over, strings off, 8 screws out and in, strings on, job done! It’ll only take half an hour… You may have noticed the first flaw in my plan, the mk1 has chrome hardware while the pro has gold. Next I found the mk1 had been shimmed by Wal a small shim which I promptly lost. On the bright side The dtuner turned up so on that went too I’m still looking for a chrome EB4 dtuner for the mk1 so if you have one lying around pm me 😄 In what world could I have ever thought it would be a quick tune up and off I go. Fretless neck on the Pro and I had the lowest action I could possibly get. Not an issue, on the fretless I keep the neck straight and the action with a hint of buzz. Just a slight tweak to the saddles and… the intonation is out. Still (again in what world) the Mk1 should be fine. The mk1 action had me scrabbling around for the shim and with a moment of clarity it came to me, it’s stuck to the fretless neck isn’t it! Fretless off 😞 nope, fretless back on. I did find it, where I’d left it on the toilet window sill, I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t decided on a pee break to settle myself (first day on the nicotine patches, they’re not that good.) The action was still high but the saddles were near the top so I managed to get it to where I like it. Intonation: FUBAR. So… 5 hours later I’m having a beer. Did I enjoy my day? Yes I did it was a Bass Day sort of. I now have this The Pro still sounds great fretless maybe a little to Zingy but the strings will wear in or I can tame it with flats. The Mk1 with DR Pure Blues on the other hand is monstrous. I purchased a Trace Elliot V-Type preamp yesterday from @ahpook (thanks again mark) It has a ‘Deep’ switch, it moves bowels! It’s not often I crank things up at home, but by god, today I deserved it 😂🤣

  17. I usually have one bass that is used for everything. It needs to become an extension of my body, and totally reliable. That is this bass. I am still making the conversion to 5 strings, but it’s getting closer. BTW, I have replaced the knobs since this photo. Totally agree about the tone of maple basses.

  18. Well, after a couple of tests of oil and ink, in the end it turns out that just plain old polyurethane lacquer brings out a nice amount of colour in the wood. I have lots of solvent PU lacquer here so didn't want to have to buy in any water based lacquer, and the worry of an oil finish softening PU if not thoroughly dry wasn't worth the agro. Slightly darker would be nice but indoors it appears darker and time will play a part. 'In the flesh' different angles bring out different grain. It needs a good few more coats of clear and a polish but it'll be lovely. Thanks for all advice offered, and about wood in general. Now back to those builds everyone. 😁.

  19. I love them all but my Spector NS-5CR is clearly my main player these days. I have barely put it down since last September. If it's a fretless day my Pentabuzz gets the nod. I've just put new strings on it so it has been getting a lot of playtime this week. Both basses are all-maple construction, something I really like. Can you believe that I nearly sold the Pentabuzz once, what a total prat I am!

  20. 1994 Ernie Ball Musicman StingRay. Bartolini pickup and Hipshot D-tuner. It's been my #1 since the day I bought it in 1995. Other Basses, bands, friends and dodgy haircuts have come and gone, but this isn't going anywhere. I like all my instruments, but I *love* this one.

  21. I think mine has to be this. I’ve gone through everything from P to J to graphite to super high end then back to P again. My others will always be ‘go to’ for certain things but as a grab and go which does most things well and even sounds acceptable on the things it doesn’t, it’s this G&L P. Partly it makes a great #1 because the P bass is such a great leveller and in lots of ways it puts everything else into context. Like Paul’s bass above, the neck has gone super dark caramel and in itself is really nicely figured and very worn in. I love the body which is a slightly skimmed down profile, it feels like a logical evolution of the P. Despite a single pickup it has a lot of flexibility sound wise, with more power on tap than anything else I have owned, passive or active. It’s actually too loud for some pedals! The flats on this just turned 3 and they give lots of growl with a nice bit of rasp when you dig in.

  22. It is my Spector NS-5XL. I bought it 5 years ago and while I use my other Spectors for gigs and practice this is the one which is the ONE. Hard to explain but this is which feels like home. For example whenever I'm working on something this is the one I reach for. Also this is the one that I recorded the most since I got it (all the other were fretless sessions) Had other US Spectors but this one is special.

  24. All valve monster up for sale - a real powerhouse amp. 300w and a quite manageable 24kg. Bought from @binkybongo on here a couple of years ago, has seen a few gigs in its time but remains in excellent condition. I cannot confirm how fresh the valves are but it sounds huge and performs as it should. The only fault it has is that it has an LED out on the back (part of the biasing system.) I do have the part number to replace this but never felt the need. Comes with a nice Roqsolid cover that I forgot to photograph (d'oh!) Any more questions or pictures, please ask. I won't courier as I don't want it to get damaged. You can come by my rehearsal room in Leicester if you would like to test it or I am willing to drive a reasonable distance outside of Leicester (say an hour or so.) Thanks for looking.

  29. Hello! I Just bought a digbeth 500, received yesterday and played some hours to try some sounds and Feels. I came from a darkglass alpha omega 900, i was looking for more vintage tones and a "tube-like" tone. Looking in the used market i found some Orange ad200, some old ashdown abm500 for a good price. In the end i got some problems with my car and 1000 euro less in my pocket. With no expectation i ordered the laney, cheaper but good looking, hoping that the andertons demo was "real". In the end i am really Happy, i run it trough my old Dg 2*10 8ohm Cab, the tone Is awesome, volume Is not a problem, you can have a good clean valve tone, no gain control, but FET volume, tube volume and drive. In really Happy and i ll male this change 100 times over and over.

  30. Got this lovely Fender Reggie Hamilton 5er from a nice guy in Austria! They seem quite rare and black especially but I’ve been after a 5 string PJ bass for a while. Not sure about the tortoiseshell pickguard, so I’ve asked “Tiny Tone” to do a 3 ply black one (BWB). First impressions are that the tonal versatility is huge! Using the P pickup in isolation and you’d be hard pressed not to think it was a P Bass and blending in the J gives a more balanced/modern tone. It sounds equally good in passive mode which is selected via a push button. Oh and it only weighs 3.7kg!!! I’ll take some better pics when the pickguard returns, but meanwhile here’s a quick one next to my Shuker! any other Reggie Hamilton owners out there…..?

  32. Funny how one bass, for no tangeable reason, can do that. I'm my case it cost me less than a hundred quid, it should be crap, but it's beautiful, resonant and comfortable. It makes me cringe about the tens of thousands of pounds I've spent previously. So crazy, and proof that you don't have to have deep pockets to find an absolute banger. I just hope that the Starfire that's coming in is good enough to back it up.

  35. I nearly bought a Marcus Miller Jazz bass once - partially because I like Marcus Miller but partially because I liked the look of the bass. In the end, if didn’t suit my playing style and the shop owner even said have you ever thought of getting a Stingray 😂 However this is the only signature model bass I have and I really like it a lot (I also like Tim Commerford’s work). Things I like about this bass:- 1) Sounds great and plays very well 2) It sounds like a Stingray in parallel mode. 3) It has two other great sounds (single coil and series) - the latter is massive!! 4) it’s very light 5) it’s the old style pre EB bridge with through stringing and mute assembly. 6) looks v cool - I’m a sucker for a natural ash bodied bass - black hardware and pickguard just add to that. 7) there’s only 50 of this version and as they sold out in a couple of days they’re very rare 😎 The very dark ebony board not only looks great but is great, in combination with the slick roasted maple neck to play

  36. I've used an MB500 210ii combo for a while now. Previously used very expensive amps (Bergantino/Glockenklang/Epifani/ EBS etc) happy enough with the sound and no fan noise issues (I don't think there is one 😂). As many of the posts above allude too, all the components for most amps cabs etc will be manufactured in Asia. I've just bought a CX115 as I'm now in a band with a couple of guitar "Heroes" 😂 so yet to try this at full 500 watts although it managed at 350.

  40. To my surprise I got a delivery window for today and have spent an hour or so playing with the '64 Black Panel. I love it, it's everything I hoped it would be. Some initial observations - Even the Cab Sim on its own makes a big improvement to the sound into my DAW. (My principal use is for recording.) The EQ is really effective, just like on a good bass amp. The Drive control is great for adding a bit of fur to the sound, just like my Ampeg PF-50T used to fur up when pushed. You can add a fair bit more than you would think - what sounds OTT played solo quickly disappears into the mix, while adding character. All my bass guitars (see sig) keep their own characters, and the sound responds well to their tone and volume controls (all passive fwiw). I have several other Origin gadgets, and I always worry about losing great settings once I have found them. The Bassrig is so intuitive that I can quickly dial in a great sound from wherever I am. The Bright switch is great for extracting the full top end range from your bass without adding excess hiss. (YMMV with an active bass.) This box made me want to play! That is a real win in my book.

  43. As someone who spent 2 days on the the Bass Direct stand, I can confirm this. Other than an apx 2 hour period on Saturday afternoon (which was bordering on very busy), it was mostly quiet (average 1-2 public in the 20m stand, peaking at 6-8 plus staff). Speaking to the other bass exhibitors, it appears the organisation and marketing for the event was rather lacklustre. There was a very well attended drum show next door, but in another building 5 mins walk away, when there were 2 empty aircraft hangar sized adjacent to the 'bass room'. Putting them together would have made sense and increased footfall for both events. The bass room was a mixed bag of small solo exhibitors, and large distributors, with some random guitar stalls/education types. 3 of the guitar stalls packed up Saturday PM and didn't come back for Sunday. That said. On the BD stand we had some great players turn up and had the time to talk to them, and let them try stuff out without time limits. As someone not invested in the event, I thought it was good fun - caught up with some old faces, met some new - plus got to try out some amazing equipment at my own whim. The Saturday night party was fun, saw Yolanda Charles play a very good set. We were all invited to jam if we wanted - but the setlist was too unfamiliar for me and I didn't want to look like the amateur that I am in front of a very skilled & educated crowd of peers. We packed up an hour early (and were the last doing so) and got home a couple of hours ago. I think if I had paid, I would feel quite put out. P.s the Dingwall in this photo is no longer available 👀

  45. TBH I can't say that I have noticed a great difference, but I haven't had the fortune to own more than one Ric at any one time so it's more from memory. I listened to a few demos online of a Laredo vs a Cheyenne before taking the plunge (through good headphones) and the differences were pretty minimal to my ears. In the context of ripping it up in a live band I very much doubt you'd hear much at all.

  46. I’m embarrassed to say this is how they sit in my living room because I cannot decide! Just put flats on the P for the first time.. loving that. Just strung the five string E to C… really loving that. And the Jazz? It’s a Jazz!!!

  47. Everyone's favourite bass player Mr Mick Mason is playing a gig at the Belmont Conservative Club in Sutton, SW London on July 23rd with the Andrew James 'Phil Collins Easy Lover' tribute band. I believe its a Basschat tradition to try and support members when they are playing locally.....
