  1. After a driver replacement on the Schroeder I decided to try this mongrel pairing. Works really well and way louder than what you’d expect from 30w. Not the prettiest set up , but if it works it works .

  3. Finally got to take some gear out for a couple of days of rehearsing with some bands. Damn this set up works so well; surprisingly loud and full.

  5. Red all night tonight - was due new strings for 5 basses and “next day” obviously means “not within 3 days…” but it seems the strings I kept as spares to put on the red one still had enough snap for one rehearsal…

  6. Yes, units manufactured. I mentioned this because these sorts of issues tend to show themselves after many speakers are out in the field used in a variety of applications. Same sort of thing often occurs with fatigue related reliability issues, which is one reason why more comprehensive modeling and aging analysis is done in higher volume commercial products (especially if a long warranty is offered). I thought that some folks here might be interested in the information I provided, if I was wrong then I’m sorry for wasting my time.

  7. Better photo tonight. Weird room - for live tracking drums so was acoustically a bit odd…

  15. My cousin was born and raised in Houston, Texas. In '83 Eliminator came out and it was also her first trip over to see the UK family. As a 10yr old boy she introduced me to a couple of bands, one of whom was ZZ Top. Eliminator had just come out and they were yet to break in the UK - certainly my family hadn't heard of them, not that we were any sort of barometer of cool. I played that album to death and bought the earlier records and some of the later ones subsequently. When we took her to get her returning flight, we bumped into one of the band at the airport (I couldn't tell you if it was Billy or Dusty - I was 10 and it was the first celebrity I'd seen in person). My cousin shared the flight with the band and met them for photos / autographs afterwards. Being a three piece I was fascinated that one was credited with bass guitar and one was credited with lead guitar. It was probably through them that I learnt the difference. Years later Dusty sent himself up beautifully in King of the Hill. I always thought they were classy guys. Maybe not a band that stayed at the forefront of my tastes but certainly one who helped steer and shape things for me. RIP Dusty.

  21. Agree, maybe someone should ask Rick Beato to analyse the song as part of a new series: "What makes this song awful?" 😉

  22. I'm a big fan of the FEA compressor (which is why I already have one so won't be buying this one - but good luck with the sale!), un-obtrusive compression that makes everything a bit more even and punchy while somehow simultaneously adding a nice slightly softened/vintage tone, and there's nothing else I'm aware of with a separate footswitch for the sidechain compression - that's something I use a lot for things like playing Dub/Reggae and wanting to leave the Bass less compressed but then when switching to playing with an envelope filter that needs the Bass more compressed the sidechain compression can be clicked off.

  27. Absolutely, she has a well-trained and well rehearsed voice, it takes skill to be so consistently out of tune. To quote Withnail and I (badly), even a broken clock is right two times a day

  28. I disagree. It smacks of parody / social experiment or some kind of marketing to me. It's too well produced to be so wrong. Even the actual singing is too wrong, to the point where it seems rehearsed.

  29. I change them to flats when I first buy a bass, and if I sell a bass I put the original set back on so I can use the flats on something else.

  32. New feature alert... Topics in the Marketplace now feature a thumbnail of the item in question. You can either let it automatically choose to generate a thumbnail from your first uploaded image, or upload a specific one when you write your advert. You can also hide the thumbnails if you don't like 'em. I hope it makes browsing the Marketplatz even more attractive. Items you've viewed will be greyed out slightly upon seeing them again. If you're wanting to change your thumbnail then any mod can choose a different image from your uploaded pics, or you can edit your advert and upload a new one. Cheers ped

  33. OK, the second expensive bass (that I can't afford) in as many weeks, but sometimes a man's got to do etc. etc. etc Anyway, looking on the Bass Gallery's website and this little beauty popped up. I've been after a 5 string T'bird style bass for ages, but the Gibson version was 'just' the studio version and weighed too much. Even though everyone says that the Epiphone pro V is wonderful, I know I'd always be lusting after the 'real thing'. I bought the Jackson Dave Ellefson T'bird but it was like the Epi, I knew I wanted something 'more', so sold that. I don't think I could ask for more with the Sandberg. Beautifully balanced, not overweight, and even though I'm not a fan of reliced instruments, it just looks 'right'. I'm yet to play it through an amp at volume but I can't wait.

  36. SOLD 14kg of punchy bass cabinet. 2x10 Ashdown speakers, easy one hand carry. 250w at 8ohms. Input and link, jack/ speakon connections. Switchable horn. I've had this since New in mid 2018. It has been gigged, (of course, why else would you own this?!) but taken good care of. No rips in the tolex, only very minor marks on the corners. It hasn't even done all of my gigs as I like to travel light and use my 1x15 as my preference. Selling due to incoming gear and my preference for a 15inch speaker. Buyer to collect from St Albans area ideally, or I'm in Stevenage quite often. PM me with any questions.

  38. Yes - that is why I wondered about a musical analysis of the song, and the singing. It sounds "precisely" bad - a deliberate half-sharp here, a glissando though the note there, and some exactly flat singing elsewhere. Each verse seems to have the same repeated errors. Like Les Dawson, someone would need a deep understanding of music theory to produce something as unmusical as what we are hearing. Add to that a competent arrangement, some choreographed dance moves, and a well-edited video with a story, and it is beginning to feel like an exercise in marketing bad music.

  39. I carried a stolen bar towel in the case for years. Wiped my hands and strings/neck periodically during a gig. Still have it. Fast Fret on strings between sessions.

  40. 625 doesn’t exist… 414/415 were passive 614/615 active 3 eq, no passive mode 414/614 then replaced by 424/1024/2024 - all passive, different country of manufacture, various wood treatments and pickup variants (all based on p/j though) modern day equivalent 434 = 414/424 (passive p/j) 734 = 614 (active p/j) 1024/2024 - bp34 (passive p/j but “posh”) 414/424/614 all 4 string 415/425/615 all 5 string

  42. I've made the mistake before of playing originals in an ordinary boozer... On one memorable gig our metal guitarist was just starting his extended solo as a hen and a stag party walked in. He was widdling away happily, eyes closed, fingers tapping merrily when a drunken girl staggered over to him wearing a skirt I'd barely class as a belt - she shouted "can you play "'Summer of 69'?". To his credit he stopped his solo there and then, shouted the key (I'd never played the song) and we did a quick chorus, then straight back into widdly metal. Punters barely noticed as they were so busy sniffing round one another! So now we only play dedicated music venues and festivals, cos folks there come specifically for the music...

  47. This was my rig at our first gig since lockdown a few weeks ago. Since then though a CTM300 has been added to the collection so I've included a couple of pictures of the amps and cabs I have to choose from (which could in theory all be combined into one big, slightly ridiculous super rig). The CTM300 will get its first outing at a biker get together on Thursday.
