  1. For anyone missing it, the Talkbass answer to the question you were going to ask, no matter what question it was, is P bass, tort guard and flats.

  3. For sale this wonderful fretless Status S2 Classic. The bass is in good condition. It has some minor marks, nothing serious. You can see it on the pictures. The bass has fretlines, which for me is quite helpful when playing on a fretless bass. The bass is all original and has at the moment roundwound strings for that extra 'zing'. Comes with hardcase (not original). Please send me a PM for more questions. For sale only. Price: €1600. Shipping is possible, but risks for buyer. Thanks for looking!

  5. Now sold. Newer motorbike purchase means owing money to the Mrs plus a bass has to go on sale. This is the best sounding most playable jazz bass I have owned by a country mile. Weight is under 8 lbs, Ash body, custom ordered Aguilar 60's pickups (AG4J60), maple one piece graphite reinforced neck, rosewood fingerboard (12" radius). Tortoiseshell pickguard, 2 tone sunburst, 34" scale, 21 frets, full electrostatic shielding, vol' vol' tone, Hipshot A style bridge (19mm string spacing) and Hipshot ultralight tuners. Instrument fully 'plecked' Protect case/gig bag. Bass and case in excellent condition, one very tiny scratch/dent on upper edge of body, barely visible - (tried to show in photo). Certificate of ownership also included. Strung with a set of DR Pure Blues with plenty of life left in them. Can set up to try bass safely with an amp at edge of my integral garage with door fully open, or can meet up socially distanced within about 20 mile radius of Daventry, I have a battery powered bass amp to use). I will not be posting this I would like the potential purchaser to play the bass and inspect beforehand.

  6. The point is that you only ever come to post your videos and when called out on it you call people keyboard warriors etc. You obviously have some great knowledge to share, it’s just a shame you don’t do it in the spirit of the forum but instead use the forum to bump up your views on your channel. Again, no law against that but don’t be surprised when people get a bit guarded against it. Your lack of ‘due diligence’ shows in that you clearly haven’t sensed the vibe of the forum and could in fact do a much better job of turning us into viewers if you tried. Anyway best of luck with it! Maybe pay someone to help you with marketing.

  7. I'm well into my sixties, and Mr Brightside is................. a beautifully crafted piece of pop rock dealing with one of the oldest of love emotions, jealousy. I think some of the complainers on here may be suffering a bit from jealousy themselves, and secretly wishing they'd written it themselves. And if I'd written it, I'd certainly be very proud to tell everyone 🙂

  9. Still got a few things to do before but put this together to make sure everything lines up and works. I've wired the mudbucker to a 4 way tele switch that gives options of coil 1, coil 2, series and parallel. Quite pleased with how this looks (I still have to get a logo sorted for the headstock) and it plays nicely. But.....I'm not entirely convinced by the mudbucker at the moment. I haven't used one before so don't have anything to compare it to as a benchmark. The pickup is a Retrovibe one and the pole pieces are pretty well aligned with the strings. The issue is that, to my ears, the A and D strings are louder and better defined than the E and G which sound quieter and a bit fluffy by comparison. This is the same no matter which coil combination I use. Anyone got much experience with these types of pickups that could point me in the right direction - any guidance would be much appreciated!! Cheers

  10. It wouldn't load for me last night about 12 hours ago, won't load now either. The important thing is that BC is working just fine and that is way more important to me.😊

  11. I don't think people have a problem with the video per se, but fear I'll be repeating myself and that you'll miss the point again so I'll just leave it - I'm probably a keyboard warrior though

  12. Really hope this kind of thread isn't the future of this forum. Would be good to keep the YouTube marketing crew from trying to monetise the concept of sharing info and open discussion, this is real garbage.

  13. See? It’s the YouTube mentality. Eventually they all learn that click bait only gets them so far, and then the insults start. The sense of entitlement comes with the territory.

  14. One of the hot topics when I looked in yesterday was “I put roundwounds back on my P and I’d forgotten how great they are”. Meltdown assured?

  19. It’ll come as no surprise that it’s my 1990 mij 60’s jazz. Even if it is wonky and battered and the only original parts are the body and three of the tuners. Owned since around 92. Used for thousands of gigs and loved

  20. I can't be doing with anything by Jaco Pastorius, does that mean he wasn't a hugely talented and influential bassist? Nope, it just means I don't like his stuff, and that's on me, not the facts...the 'I don't like it therefore it's rubbish' mindset is just that, a personal mindset, and nothing to do with how good a particular piece of music is in terms of what it was trying to achieve.

  21. If you take up the bass after you have been happily married for over 25 years then the bottom line is the expectation, and the reality is the same, but probably with fewer basses. 😁

  22. Lefty, given the number of bassists with a high-end 20Kg all-valve amp sitting on a shelf somewhere gathering dust, why don't you just borrow one for a month or two?

  23. I could never like Jaco, because he didn't play metal!

  24. I've always been entertained by the irony that, since keyboard warrior is a pejorative term used to describe people who write in a pejorative manner online, it is impossible to use the term online without falling under its definition oneself 🙃

  26. How different people choose to upgrade their instruments could be an interesting topic, but your posts are against the spirit of a forum, which is to discuss and share ideas and information openly. You use it only a place to spam your YouTube channel.

  27. Dude. Quite a few folk in the forum have lost loads of work myself included. Guess what? We haven't done clickbait videos. Nor are we jealous of people who have. People are jealous of youtubers? Well, I guess you could be of the ones who earn ludicrous amounts of money. But of your bass channel specifically? Come on. Really? There's a reason why people don't like youtubers. It's the constant take mentality. Same with Instagram influencers. Is that not some form of entitlement? I'm not a keyboard warrior. I make a rule to say nothing online I wouldn't say to someone's face. I fear the more you dig in with this the worse the reactions might become in the future as most of the forum is over 45 so the demographic isn't going to warm to clickbait titled videos. Check out how much some people disliked Scott Devine's. It's the nature of the YouTube beast and it has nothing to do with finding out information. It's just clicks.

  28. I'm rather jealous of your extra string. I have the 4 string version. I wouldn't say Tony introduced me to these basses but I did have to hunt him down, via another very helpful guy in Italy, in order to buy mine. The internet is a wonderful thing...........sometimes.

  31. It was warped bad dude. Truss rod was maxed, and I couldn't get it to bend back at all. So, I just ordered a new neck. Better anyway really. It'll last me longer that way. Plays like a dream now.

  33. I felt inspired by this thread and after selling some bits, I bought myself a Harley Benton TE52 the other week. Cost £134 all in and I had enough for a second hand Orange Terror Stamp to go with it! I don't have a guitar cab yet and my bass cab is 4ohms, so can't put the terror stamp through that, but with a cab sim in a DAW, it's the sound I was after in my head. Two very good bits of kit!

  35. I think Chris has hit it on the nail there. Having played bass, guitar, and done lead vocals in bands all whilst in the same clothes and body, the amount of attention I received from the ladyfolk whilst doing guitar and lead vocals for a short time far outweighs that of when I’ve played bass. Must admit I never got any attention from cats though.....

  36. Speak for yourself! That's a highly presumptuous picture stereotyping bass players. I don't even like cats!

  37. We're getting closer to the end now! The neck is now fully fretted with EVO gold fretwire, the cavities are all finsished, and all control holes drilled. the 4 holes for the frequency/resonance controls ive recessed around the knobs in the redwood top (PRS style), the plan is to aim for a nice smooth satin finish, and so i think this will add some nice highlights on the body and allow the rest of the top to be a bit thicker and sturdier the plan is to have the 2 filter mode switches just below the bottom of the bottom pickup, next to eachother, which should make for a nicely spaced set of controls. the neck is now to the profile i wanted, so im getting the side dots put in: these are going to be the same as my last bass, brass 4mm tubs with abalone dots. this is a pretty easy detail to add, makes the dots very easy to see even in dark conditions and looks lovely and here's where we're upto, with all the shaping pretty much finished: im very pleased with the overall shape and the curves of the body now. its very comfortable, pretty lightweight, feels nice to hold and the neck feels nice in the hand, the swirl of the woods on the upper scroll carve came out really nicely, so im extremely excited to move onto the finishing. that will really bring out the contrast in the veneers that run down the middle of the S shape in the top, as well as the rope pattern on the neck!

  40. @Jabba_the_gut Have you tried popping the strings off and seeing they've not twisted ? @hooky_lowdown 's advice might be the answer I had an overly quiet A string after installing the monster split single, wound to 29.9k ohm and up there in terms of mud 👍 Advice I got include string witness points, twists etc. @ezbass I remember those Artec/magnet posts, thought it was a massive problem as every mention of Artec had the magnet reverse post attached. Turned out the same 2 lads were on a global mission to warn all potential Artec buyers 🤣

  41. Yes, I'm using Thomastiks also. Very good match. The holy grail though, is La Bella White Nylon Copper. They aren't compatible with the piezos because of the nylon, but hopefully this will change soon. Tony is currently testing prototypes of new piezos from the original maker.

  42. I was out with my nine year old lad last week. Walking past one of his school friends houses I spied a Fender bass headstock of some sort in the living room. The family walk past our house to the park most days so I got chatting to the dad who it turns out is the bassist. He’s been using lockdown to get properly into it while his daughter is learning guitar. Used his time a bit more wisely than me then.
