Dunno why but in the last hour naff pop tune The Lion Sleeps Tonight has been worming its way into my ear. This is a song that peddles misinformation inferring that lions live in the jungle but as any fule kno, the habitat of lions is grassland, savannah, dense scrub and open woodland. Open woodlands are no jungle tho'! Now if they'd sung 'in the jungle... the tiger/panther/jaguar sleeps tonight' that would've been better. Fleetwood Mac are woefully ignorant of the fact that thunder often happens during dry conditions and not just when it's raining. The lyric should read 'Thunder often occurs when it's raining'. What other song lyrics are factually incorrect

There’s the funny old thing with Guitar/Music shops. The retailers complain about the discount merchants - so their big accounts try to resolve it. The discount merchants are in a race to make the least margin. Usually from a web store rather than shop front. The customers want top notch service and an opportunity to try before they buy...but don’t want to pay what they perceive to be over the odds. It’s a lose/lose situation for everyone. When in the trade, my colleagues and I used to tear our hair out over it. We used to have people come in and try things, ask if we’d match a price which was £4 profit on an £800 sale...was very disheartening. They’d purchase the same instrument online, and come to us when there was a problem - and then be dissatisfied with the fact that as a Fender/Gibson/Epiphone dealership, we wouldn’t sort the problems they were experiencing as warranty repair. Also that we wouldn’t resolve an issue with a Fender bought from Thomann in Germany by sending it to Fender GBI to fix...for free. The list goes on, I’m not sure that price fixing or MAP pricing is the pure evil it’s made out to be. But I’ve seen both sides.

Be careful what you say because I'm still here. 😉 Anyway thanks for the kind comments. When I started back in 2004 it was to fill a need that was not being fulfilled. It was a hobby business and as such was kept very small. Since then others have grasped the opportunity to grow substantial and successful businesses out of supplying cables. I still have some stock of cables and connectors including Klotz 4-sq.mm. speaker cable, however they are packed away pending a move west which seems to be thwarted at every step.We were originally due to move in April but Covid19 put a stop to that. I must say that selling houses is a bit like snakes and ladders. Hopefully we can finally move soon. When I get settled and sorted I should be able to make the occasional custom lead should anyone need one.

I've always done set lists in Excel and being an accountant by training, assumed everyone did the same. It's the right way: it's God's way I'm led to believe The band leader and lead guitarist in one of my bands are both lawyers and insist on sending set lists out in Word. That just perverted and makes me feel quite violent towards them in a passive-aggressive way. (I tut, loudly).

Ashdown's legendary world class customer service strikes again! 🙂 I emailed Dave Green to ask whether it would be possible to order a new Grill for the 410 in the same style as my 610 so they would match. Unfortunately it would need to be made specially to fit this cab so the cost would be prohibitive (Dave reckons it would be cheaper to buy a new ABM cab). I thanked him and said in that case I'd just go back to the plan to buy a new double wing badge (which is £15 on the Ashdown website) and put some piping round the grill. Got an unexpected email back from Dave asking for my address so he can send me a badge and the piping - no charge! It might only seem a little thing but I think it says a lot. I don't have anything like the profile for an official endorsement unfortunately but I'll never hesitate to sing their praises. Awesome gear and a fantastic company to deal with!
