  1. Hey gang! I'm selling my 1972 Fender Precision. It in its original black custom colour, with a maple neck. The previous owner bought it new in 1972 in California, and in the early 80's did the usual 'upgrades' to the bridge, pickguard, pickups & wiring. I've since re-replaced them with repros from Limelight, to restore it back to its former glory. The rest is all-original. There's a small, virtually invisible repair to the finish on the top horn, performed by the legendary Dave Wilson, who also gave it a full set up. The neck is strong, the truss is good. It's a medium-light weight (3.8kg, 8lb 6oz), and resonant. It kind-of comes with the original case - the owner kept the Fender badge, interior, handle and latches, and adapted it into a more substantial flight case (NOTE: the actual case can be seen in photos further down the thread).   4. I did hit someone who was spitting at us in the face straight on with the headstock of my bass many years ago. Back in my early 20s I had the energy, strength, anger and ability to do that sort of stuff (as in lift a bass guitar higher than waist height). Nowadays I’d probably criticise their curtains or something equally severe.

  6. Sellin this great 59’Pbass Custom Shop, got this new in June. It’s basically mint. Comes with og case, strap and certificate. Trade with Alleva Coppolo 4 string, preferring LM. Price drop to 2600£ or open to reasonable offers. bass is in mint conditions, never gigged, just played at home a few times...amazing Ptone, great worn in feel neck. Just im not to much a P guy

  7. Ok, so bought this on here from @Pentode a few weeks ago and then the Handbox I wanted came up a few days later so, this is up for grabs. It really is as brilliant as his original listing ( see attached and a few of his pics too, hope that’s ok ) ! So it’s back up for what I paid for it, will make someone very happy indeed! Trades I’m looking for a nice cab to go with my Handbox and Ampeg heads.

  10. I remember seeing the Rollins Band, many years back, and one guy kept getting on the stage. Obviously he'd wait for Hank to be over the other side before doing it, then leap off as Hank moved towards him. The guy then got his timing wrong and Rollins caught him in mid air and pulled him back on the the stage. For the rest of the song Rollins held the guy, one handed, behind him. The song lasted about 8 minutes. At the end of the song Rollins just stared right in to the guy's eyes and without saying a word threw him off stage.

  17. slightly off topic but in relation to some previous comments : we manage very well with 2x Yamaha DXR12 tops and a DXS12 sub at all our gigs (big and small pubs). The entire band (e-kit, bass, 2x guitars and 3x vocals) all go through the PA with very minimal backline (1x 20w Friedman valve guitar amp and the other using his Boss combo on 0.5w setting with acoustic shield, both miked). I run no backline and IEMs with bass sound processing done by the XR18 and we have no issues running that setup nowhere near flat out to get a great sound (if i don't say so myself). I'm very much past using a bass backline for this band - we sound better for a quiet backline and setup time is no different to normal (less if you factor in the amount of gear we have to lug around). The drummer is on IEMs and a P&D haptic drum throne and the two guitarists have their own Yamaha monitors. it's taken 2 years of gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) persuasion to get to this stage - when i joined it was the same PA running vocals and bass drum only with the usual acoustic kit, 4x12's, 50 or 100w heads, i used a BF super twin with a 1500w power amp etc etc etc - sounded like any other pub band i.e. waaaay too loud for the locations played - we still have plenty of volume, it's just now through the PA and sounds so much better for it

I actually really like the challenge of playing with people who are technically better than me - I much prefer to be the weakest musician in the room, and if I'm not, somebody probably needs sacking! And I do think that bass players can get away with quite a lot because while we know what we bring to the role, outside of some specific genres, people often look for "solid" rather than spectacular What I hate is not having a clue how the song goes and being expected to make it up on the spot - hence why jam nights are not really for me. I'm not against "jamming" in the true sense, more that I'm not going to magically get the bass lines for Mustang Sally at the drop of a hat, and nobody wants to hear me try

  23. UK Delivery now Included I'm slightly pained listing this but I've bought another bass today so my least played has to go. Picked it up a while ago as I had to try one and see what they were about. These are brilliant basses and a great blend of modern features and retro styling but Ive come to the conclusion it's not my bag with a wider flat radius P style maple neck and the colour scheme never really floated my boat being a monochrome lover at heart. Reverse oversize poles P pup and humbucking J. Volume tone and pup blend controls Lovely 5 piece roasted maple neck satin finish. Hipshot ultralites, string through body and hi mass bridge with lockable saddles. Approx 3.8kg so pretty comfortable weight too. In generally excellent condition, very minimal fretwear etc. Has one tiny chip through the lacquer on the top horn and a few smaller knocks by the input jack (see photos) I would prefer collection from my studio in S.E. London but Ive got a box and packing stuff so I can ship at buyers cost but I'll need to get a gig bag from somewhere to put it in.

  24. One in/ one out policy now truly in enforced place by Mrs Raslee and as I have another incoming P so this one can go to make some much needed space. So here we have a funky strawberry red Late 80’s/1990's Yamaha BB200. When I got it, it had been neglected - poor set up, strings on wrong and dodgy electrics - yet structurally the bass still felt very good indeed. I decided to treat this bass and upgraded with a Tone Rider pick up with whipped creamy covers, Kiogon wiring loom and a Gotoh bridge. The body and neck really are great condition for its year, and now it sounds and looks fantastic with the upgrades. A lot of (vintage) BB P bass for £200 (or offer) and it plays really sweet too; I won’t be too concerned if it doesn’t sell too quickly TBH but it is sitting here begging to be taken out. Original Yamaha pickups also included. Collect from Plymouth or will post in the UK for £20 - extra if abroad.

  25. Sorry if this has been done before but I did search. You know that fantasy that most of us have probably had where (normally at the start of a playing career) you imagine that Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, Mark King, Roger Glover, Chris Squire or whoever, has slammed their hand in the limo door and the MD shouts out "is there anybody here that can play......." That number that you've nailed because you just love it. Hard or simple, doesn't matter. Just that dream song that you'd love to play with THAT band, on stage, and get to be the hero. Out of interest, mine's Danger, breakdown dead ahead by Bozz Scaggs.

  29. Light is like sound, on a log scale so there won't be half as much light again with 105W, but I am using the 70W lights. When you think that an 8W domestic led is rated as 100W equivalent then think of these as being rather like the old 500W floodlights, not really a domestic item. Obviously the 70W rating is with all the leds lit so a single colour won't be as bright but even so you really can't see much with one of these a few feet away shining straight at you.

  32. Having checked out the SVT with the cab, I thought it would be interesting to try out this. It is a General Electric PA amplifier, made in 1935. 4 KT66 cathode biased output valves and rated very conservatively at 30W. It was my first amp when I started playing well over 40 years ago! My father had just bought a TV and cycle shop business and we found this old (even then) amp languishing in the loft. It needed a good service, jack connectors adding for input and output and a matching transformer for the 100v line output. It weighs nearly as much as the SVT and back in the day was paired with a massive 1 x 12" cab with a slate baffle from an old billiard table with 1 1/4" chipboard for the rest of the cab and a pine frame around the front, painted gloss purple! The cab is long gone but I still have the amp and it still works. The valves are all original except for the driver. I've changed a couple of leaky caps and added some new smoothing caps to help the originals. It's not as loud as the SVT but has a smooth slightly compressed sound. A peek inside for the tech minded. Very neat and easy to work on.

  44. I do play in a covers band and yes I rarely have a good enough PA to trust the bass with. I hope you have also have the benefit of a sound person that does not use up all the FOH headroom with the kick drum. Don't get me wrong, I understand the benefits of a good PA and monitors , in a a past life, was Technical Manager for a Ramsa. The FRFR PA cabs many use for monitoring or as a combo will be adequate for Bass only, or Vocals with a little reinforcement for other instruments if used as PA tops. However if the bass and drums are to go through the PA, then several thousand real watts are needed and better drivers than fitted in even the best "tops". Now if you have a decent line array and some serious subs....but most of us can only dream.

  45. Used to quite enjoy playing their songs back in the day. Remember going to see them Oct 26th 1979 in Edinburgh and they were ok but the support band were better. Can't remember who they were tho but i'll have the programme somewhere. The venue didn't help things as it was in what you might say an agricultural market building Ingliston Edinburgh. Bit boomy when they horsed up the volume for Boston. Support probably sounded better because volume was lower. Dave Decided to google it and low and behold i found it first attempt.   46. True enough, and I'm not one to shout at a waiter when they haven't cooked my food either but the companies clearly don't really care. I've had these two corkers in the past few weeks alone.
