  1. I very much hope this isn't an indication that a certain Milwaukee bassist is about to quit his band... But if so, here's how I do it: * Tip up for rehearsal without your gear * Tell them you've always hated them * Chin someone * Leave the room and go straight to the parking lot * Shove a potato up the tail-pipe of each of your bandmates' cars. Or p*ss in their tanks. It doesn't really matter. * Call the promoters for all the band's upcoming bookings and tell them the band can't do the dates. Let the band find out the hard way, the bastards. * Change your name and appearance (maybe shave your head and grow a moustache) and move to another city

  2. If you know your bandleader well enough and they have a big enough ego but lack the nads to sack people face to face then when you are ready to go you just drop a few hints here and there and they will invariably sort out a replacement behind your back. All you do is then wait for the 'we are letting you go' phone call or email. They give you what you want whilst under the illusion they are in control. Their egos blind them to the reality and all you have to do is keep a straight face on the phone or have a chuckle replying to the email.

  3. Ooops, sorry, sold a week ago. I need to move house later in the year. It will be the end of gigging for me as there's no pub scene there. I don't gig this wonderful bass in the dubious gaffs I play, so time to sell it. BAD BITS. I would also consider a part ex BUT I need to realise at least £1000 cash for the expensive move to come. Original pups are not on, BUT I have them & they are included. I think the bridge pickup has been re-wired at some stage. No idea what the current pups are, but they work nicely. Original included pups, neck no. 180?74, 6.90 ohms, bridge no 181574, 7.60 ohms. Don't think scratchplate is original. (Edit). Like many early 70's Fenders, nothing on the heel of neck, but some stamps can be seen & name looks like it ends "es" The 2 pot dates (both vols) that I can see are 137-73 then it get's tricky. HAPPY to take the control plate off for inspection but I've tried about 20 photos of the numbers & can't get them right. Don't think the case is original, but it's certainly battered. GOOD BITS. It's a lovely bass which seems to be mainly original, lots of chips, bit of forearm wear. Not heavy at fractionally over 9lbs I WON'T COURIER I'm afraid, I can't get full insurance at this sort of cost. I will happily drive within 100 miles of Wigan. Happy for any experts to point out any unintended misinformation, it is 45 years old after all. I am in no rush, thanks for looking, Karl.

  5. "I'm done!" Slam door, walk out. (Sneak back in 5 minutes later and quietly pack up your gear in what feels like the longest 20 minutes of your life.)

  6. I've just been offered the opportunity to join a signed band, doing gigs at bigger venues than I'm used to around the UK. My current main band play pubs, clubs and functions. I decided I'd be better to tell the core of the band (hubby and wife) face to face, so I went round to their place on a Sunday morning. I explained my situation and told them that I'd like to continue gigging with them up until the end of June, by which time they'd need to have recruited a new bass player. This fitted fine with the new band's plans and has given my old band plenty of time to recruit. They've not been dropped in the doo doo and we remain friends. Successful conclusion!

  7. Brubaker KXB 5 Extreme custom made in USA by Kevin Brubaker. Quite a rare bass, doubt there are many like this in the UK. Price drop - £2000 Swamp Ash body Scale: 34" Frets: 24 Hipshot tuners Bartolini Pickups Weight: 12lb/5kg Features his interchangeable preamp system as demonstrated in the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AGNo9x60TY&t=248s Bass comes with both Bartolini (18 volts) and a Mike Pope (9 volts) preamp modules. IF you wanted to replace the existing preamp in either module it is very simple to do so. Modules can be changed in seconds with the click of a button on the back. Makes changing batteries quick and easy with no need for a screwdriver 🙂 In good condition, a few signs of wear on the pickup plastic and 1 small ding on the body that I tried to show in the last pic. DM me if interested! I am based in Wolverhampton. My feedback: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/201607-feedback-for-dgrizzle17/

  8. Sandberg California II TT4 Bass Made in Germany This is a very reluctant sale. This is the new shape California II in TT configuration, essentially an active/passive Jazz bass. Good as this bass is, I tend to gig with ACGs so it's a little neglected, not getting the use it surely should. The pickups are Bartolini B-Axis pickups, more details can be found here: https://bartolini.net/product/j44j/ These are essentially hum-cancelling “J” pickups and produce a nice rich sound. This high quality German-made Sandberg bass is around 3 years old and is in excellent condition as I hope the pictures show. I would prefer to arrange some kind of delivery / collection / meet up if at all possible. I'm pretty flexible and willing to travel a bit if necessary. Courier would be the last resort and will be at cost to you. These basses have an MRSP of €1,700 so do grab yourself a bargain! Features/Specifications: · Ash body with Maple neck, 22 frets plus a zero fret · Ebony board · Light at just over 8 lbs in weight (3.7kg) · Fabulous neck with a 38mm nut width and a satin finish, so beautiful to move around on · High quality Sandberg black hardware with lightweight tuners · Natural satin finish on the body; also slightly unusual I guess as most of the natural basses seem to be in high gloss · Unmarked as far as I can see · 2-band EQ with active/passive option. The treble control acts as a tone control in passive mode · Comes with the high quality Sandberg gig bag and tools If you have any questions at all, or require additional pictures of any details please ask away and I give as comprehensive an answer as I am able.

  9. Hey guys, Finally got my order received, including 2 Yamaha BBs, Ashdown CTM head and cab and even an ashdown tone pocket to stay on the neighbours Christmas card list 😉 hahaha Obviously, matching 4 & 5 string BBP34 and 35 basses. Fit like a glove, sound amazing and don't break my back the way the BB1025 does. Extremely happy to have these. The ashdown is just pure valve bass amp goodness. Got less watts to play with but compared to my Trace Elliot 715 and Ashdown Touring 220w, I've got more tone to play with and its loud enough for what I need it for. I will be investing in some casters for the cab though, it's a heavy thing and the wheels on the back of the cab are practically useless unless you're 2ft tall, to use it on the 45° angle and don't need to move it sideways. All in all, feel like a kid on Christmas getting everything on his list to santa. So happy 😁

  11. I voted burst but not for the common old garden burst's that we normally see. It was for this one that i used to own and its now one of my few regrets that I let it go. I wouldn't be playing it much but i could look at it for days... Musicman Autumn Redburst Sparkle.

  12. Slightly disappointed there's no option for or As far as choosing a favourite is concerned though, I'm struggling. I really am a complete sucker for a natural finish through-neck. But I suppose "stripy" isn't a colour...

  15. There is! (something else - please specify) ⏫This quite clearly means pie! (although my choice meant tiger stripes over natural, but there was nowhere to spec. it ) 🍝 - why is there no pie emoticon thingy?

  19. Amicably, always - even if it means gritting your teeth and forcing a smile. If you burn bridges with people you burn networking opportunities. It's a small world in someways and I've had things passed on to me from former bandmates. I'm not sure that would've happened if we'd parted company in a sour manner.

  23. The D.A. Ampeg is arguably a more beautiful clear body: But if you need one for recording, obviously you gotta have have the P bass. 👍

  24. Yes, tigers are actually blue & white in nature, but for TV they always photoshop them for political correctness reasons. People don't see the true colours, like that gold & white dress meme thingy a couple of years ago.

  25. Tigers are kinda orange. At least they are on TV, but I suppose they might be photoshopped.

  26. Now back up to £22. There's bad review of it as well: 'I purchased this so called ‘Big Beautiful Book Of Bass’ hoping to find some great fishing tips and tricks but it doesn’t even contain Bass recipes or even a single photograph of a fish, let alone any hints on how to catch the slippery little blighters. I think the guy who wrote this book (Jeddy?) was hoping to net himself some really stupid fishermen and it worked.'

  27. I don't really have a favourite colour as such, I tend to judge each instrument on its individual merits. But anything turdburst is fundamentally wrong and should be cleansed with fire. So I'd probably have to say all of the above as long as it doesn't like a dirty protest 😀

  28. 2468 is a Jackson 5 track mate. I think Jamerson was first to really make the bass dance. It's Jamerson and Edwards that really float my boat. There is true beauty in their phrasing.

  34. As I said in another post. We did a gig once where I messed up. I freely admit, I completely forgot the song. Drummer threw his sticks and stormed off. End of the night! In my book, if anyone mucks up, straight away do something you know back to front and is a real crowd pleaser. Even if you have to borrow from later in the set, or even repeat. Just something to get the audience bouncing. Previous mistake will be forgotten.

  36. There's something about a black bass which is understated and classy, where a red or unusual colour (like a bright orange, lime green etc) would stick out, some more than others. I guess the same could apply to white too (classy and fits in). Whether you want to stick out, or let the music do the talking, is another matter.

  38. Ah pickguards... that's a whole 'nother subject. Don't worry about liking Precisions, Paul. Apparently all the best pro-players use nothing else and some of them even manage to keep their left arms on the neck throughout a gig...

  42. Throwing someone else's instrument across would be better - the rest of he band will be so shocked, and then they'll all gather round the wounded guitar/sax/piano (if you're strong enough!) which gives you time to dismantle your kit and walk out before anyone notices. It also saves you from damaging your bass.
