If you like your Jazz basses with proper vintage tone but a boutique feel, this walnut and elm build delivers in spades. Nitro finished, loaded with Fender Pure Vintage ’66 pickups and quality hardware throughout, it looks stunning and sounds even better. Weight: 9.8lbs Specs Walnut top with elm body Roasted maple neck Rosewood fingerboard Nitrocellulose finish Fender Pure Vintage ’66 Jazz Bass pickups Bloodstone Guitarworks loom Hipshot bridge Guyker tuners Schaller strap lock buttons Fresh D’Addario EXL strings Supplied with gig bag The walnut/elm combination gives it a warm, resonant character with strong sustain. The Pure Vintage ’66 pickups deliver classic Jazz tones — punchy neck warmth, articulate bridge bite, and that unmistakable mid growl when blended. The roasted maple neck feels smooth and stable, and the nitro finish will continue to age beautifully over time. Fully set up and ready to gig. £850 ONO. Try before you buy absolutely a must and if you don’t love it as much as I do then not obligation to proceed with purchase. MGCS – Built to be played. Built to last.

Just how bad was the gig Daryl ? Was it simply you picking up on some minor mistakes that an audience wouldn't notice or was it a major failing somewhere. My apologies but i seem to have missed your gig post on this and just catching up on things now so i'll go back and have a search for it. I know i hear mistakes on stage but just carry on and play the "jazz version" and no-one will notice as long as you look confident on stage or just laugh it off and the audience will go along with it. This is live music and sometimes mistooks happen. Most audiences will accept the occasional mistake IME. Dave

That's a shame. Are they able to swap it over for one with the correct finish, or is all the stock on hand like that? -

Hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm sure you're all familiar with the feeling that after a couple of hours' mixing, your ears aren't really "listening" any more! So I've come to ask for a fresh set of ears on this. I feel like the mix for this song is "getting there," but something needs tweaking, or EQing differently, and I can't place what. I purchased guitars and basses from Peach as I’m not far from Colchester. Their way of selling now ( appointment only visits ) was due to theft from the shop of high end PRS guitars where a couple walked in took them off the rack under their coats and walked out !! They are a decent bunch but their bass amp selection and stock is woeful. The store is like a western saloon and it’s a cool experience with personal attention and help. I think they are a decent store especially for guitars and guitar amps ( high end )

I wholeheartedly concur with @Silky999 - this is a spectacular little bass with a rich and full sound - We even tuned the pickup angles between us, so it sounds perfectly even between each string. If I hadn't taken a 5-string Maruszczyk Mr.Tee Shortscale in P/X last week, I'd be having this myself! The engraved 'MGCS Basses' logo on the body is next level cool, too.

At least Bass playing is potentially quite a sociable thing (or even if only playing alone at home - it gives the skills to play in a band at some point). And it is relatively cheap. Most other instruments cost more. A second hand Bass doesn't really depreciate if well looked after. It's basically a refundable deposit. And I think playing music is good mentally. It feels to me like it uses different parts of the brain to my day job. Good for sort of zoning out and I suppose a sort of meditation. I saw the other day that model trains can be £400 just for the engine bit and about £40 a carriage, a decent model railway must cost people many thousands. Many mountain bikes are £3k and expensive to maintain and depreciate quickly. Then look at the cost of hobbies like Golf, vintage cars etc. Bass is positively budget in comparison.

They are local to me and that is a real plus. Glad you had a good experience…I won’t be back for anything serious

Looks ace Rob. The pickups were sold to me on basschat as Fender late 50's pickups pickups which I had no reason to doubt. I certainly thought that had a good balanced tone. Anyhow great job, You've really made an impact on that! 👏

I can really relate to this. I've been shafted by similarly mundane but essential expenses this week and it's a bit soul-destroying in so much as you feel like you're running to stand still. You have to spend a lot of money to to renew what you had paid for previously, so your money is gone and you've got nothing to show for it except what you already had. Even at my age I've never fully reconciled myself to spending money on boring crap like buying tables and paying electricity bills but unless you want to sit in cold darkness eating off the floor with a load of dossers for company (although to be fair, that's what being a student was like in my day and I quite enjoyed it) that's what you have to do. What happened to the days when money was for going out to discos (yes, discos, I'm that old) with my friends and buying things I actually wanted? Being an adult is rubbish.
