    I’ve found the Boss WL-20 perfectly adequate for the last 10 years. No need for transmitter pouches, it’s built into the unit. Battery life even now is over 6 hours. Range is excellent and it’s pretty good at choosing a frequency that won’t clash with other systems in use by your band mates. The only “feature” I have found in one band, where one of the guitarists uses the same unit, that they can connect to the wrong receiver, if you connect at the same time. It’s easily fixed: one of you repeats the set up procedure and they chose different frequencies. It won’t fit into a Strat style jack socket though.

    I want to bring the string height down a little on some of my basses. I'm looking at nut files and they seem to be either less than £10 or over £200 with little in between. There are also some sets of two or three with plastic handles labelled sizes 3-5 without saying what 3-5 actually means in mm or inches. There are also setsof needle files for general purpose use but I already have sets of these, and I've seen people wrapping old strings in sandpaper and using that as a tool. It's Christmas and peopleare asking what to buy me. There's nething I really want but if I could find something that would make the job easier then files in the £20-30 range would be a great present I'd actually use. I hate the idea of people wasting money on something I wouldn't use. Any suggstions?

    I have a vester custom shop fretless copy of a Warwick thumb . Great bass ,apart from being a little on the heavy side . Great neck and action. A couple of basschatters saw it and were mightily impressed . Never heard any bad comments on bc about vesters .

    I'm sure the mods here would be happy to sort that for you. It's just it's not a precision bass either. Is it possible the receipt / purchase order have been mixed up with another bass? Also pictures of the 'shape end' front and back would help people here identify it better for you.

    When me & my mates used to go to the greyhound races I always used to bet on whichever dog you could see taking a dump at the side of the track, figuring it would be lighter so should have a better chance of winning.

    There has always been a great deal of disagreement over heavy vs light instruments. I think it’s generally been acknowledged over many years that guitars that are lighter are praised by experts who speak of better resonance / sustain etc. Whilst that may not always hold true, it has been from my experience with both guitars and basses. Having had a fair few Precisions and Stingrays over the years, the ones I thought were better were indeed the lighter ones. Whilst this may have been partly because they were easier on my aching shoulders, I do think that weight does play some part in what makes an instrument sound great. The best guitar I’ve ever played was a friend’s Fender Esquire from the 50’s, and it was also the lightest. Likewise Gibsons, best Les Pauls and 335s I’ve owned /played have been the lighter ones. My 63 P bass is fairly light at under 8lbs, and my regular gigging bass is a P-Lyte at 7lbs ( as you would expect!). Both are very resonant basses.

    Furthermore, digital devices are highly prone to voltage variation (think logic gates), that's why many CD players have become faulty over the years, as a simple capacitance variation can have a huge impact on the circuit making it work incorrectly or not at all.

    You can replace the parts of any bass but you'll end up with "Triggers broom". Then will it be your bass anymore? There are plenty of great sounding lightweight basses around.

    Cosmic Metallic pedal sold. I've been collecting and pedal-testing solidly since COVID but a lot's been happening this year and, as my priorities are changing, it's time to start letting some of these pedals go, including those that six months ago it would have been unthinkable selling. I'm selling a Doom 2 in Jade Green finish. It's from the September 2023 release of 100 pedals. All Doom 2s from and including the June 2023 run incorporate the re-voiced circuit (slight tweaks to incorporate some of the design of the original high gain mod). This unit is fitted with the new high gain mod. The mod makes it a little harsher and more abrasive than the standard gain units but it still gets synthy, and the difference is less stark the between the standard and high gain versions of the old circuit (as is to be expected given the origin of the re-voicing). The mod was originally aimed at guitar players so I'm pricing it at £330 on here, which is little lower than the standard gain model. Original ad retained for transparency: Up on the block are a couple of Doom 2s, one being the standard gain unit (in Cosmic Metallic (the purple one)) SOLD and a high gain unit (in Jade Sparkle)). Both units are from the limited runs of 100 in 2023 and are the latest spec. £360 each (including UK Royal Mail Special Delivery postage). Neither has been used on a pedalboard and they're basically mint in box. The Wicked theme was not intentional. I'm not really looking for trades at this point but there are a handful of pedals I'm curious about: COG T-70 v2; Hamstead Subspace GE, and Chase Bliss Spectre.

    I've found that Compression is something that really needs to be tested with your playing style and other equipment as there are so many variables, and it doesn't communicate well with stuff like Youtube reviews as a big part is about how it feels. My recommendation would be to push the boat out and buy quite a lot of them second hand from here connect them all together and do direct testing one after the other (best to do this when playing with the band at gig volume if possible) their resale value should be pretty much what you bought them for so it shouldn't necessarily cost much in the long-run. But then again, I enjoy faffing about with pedals and perhaps it isn't everyone's cuppa (not least my bandmates!). Saying that though, my favorites have been: Cali 76 Bass Compact, Empress Bass Compressor, FEA Opti-FET. The SA Atlas I thought was good but let down by the hardware a bit for live gig adjustments, Markbass Compressore is good but I was put-off by the size and different power supply needed, I didn't get on witht he MXR M87 (felt it needed a HPF or clean blend), EarthQuaker 'The Warden' I felt overly compressed the initial note, and the Pigtronix Philosophers Tone just wasn't for me - very useful if you want to add sustain though. I've probably tried others but I guess they were more forgettable. I was to buy another compressor it'd probably be the Empress agian, but that's partly as I want to also use it for non-Bass stuff and nerd about with the side-chain insert.

    No “worst” and no contest for absolute BEST for me - my Sandberg VM4 in Marley Blue bought in January. I just love this bass. In fact, it’s pretty much kept both my Wals securely tucked up in their cases all year. In fact, it’s so good, I’ve got a Superlight on order which will hopefully make it onto next year’s thread!!!
