  2. To me, jamming along to a song you've never heard before is as good as it gets.
  3. Had a very busy weekend and a break from the norm with some great dep gigs. Fri night & Sat morning depped in a production of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, a very professional show and a chance to flex my reading chops, I then went straight from that gig on Saturday 120 miles down to a Holiday Park near Scarborough to dep for a band playing at an end of season party to finish off a very busy Saturday. Quite a contrast but some fun tunes to play. The theatre show was in a really nice old Theatre in Newcastle city centre, I took a few photos from the pit where I was sitting, it really gives the place a proper old timey feel rather than some of the sterile newer places.
  4. With high output basses, be sure you are using the gain switch in the low gain position.
  5. We've discussed it many times, but nothing concrete one way or the other.
  6. Well, I had been ill since Thursday, nothing major - just a lurgy but ill enough to mean I didn't get around to sorting out the tuners until today. I won't bore you with a complete step by step - the results of polishing are great but the process isn't exactly a spectator sport. But to give you an idea of the amount of difference I was making... Anyway, very long story short - all tuner parts rinsed of cola, dried, polished, reassembled and greased. Frets polished. Fretboard and headstock polished. Tuners reinstalled - had to put some cocktail stick and wood glue in a few of the holes as the screws were just spinning. String tree polished. Doesn't look that shiny now, but it looks a damn sight better than when it got here. And I don't have to wash my hands after tuning it up, so that's a bonus!
  7. It's going to be a while unfortunately. There is a big jump from necks to a full instrument, and a much broader, more complex set of customer expectations apply. The brand doesnt have the resources to deal with the extra commitment right now. But it would feel fantastic to be able to offer something like that.
  8. You’ll want to post this in the Wanted forum under the Classifieds (most likely a mod will move it there for you).

  10. Wanted, Anyone have one for sale.
  11. Kim Jong Un, maybe. Make sure you wash your hands after touching those strings.
  12. Hi, I haven't had these for long (I used to own both these pedals many years ago, but bought them for the second time recently), but a recent change in musical direction has now made these obsolete. I have about 700€ invested in these and I' m looking to get back 650€ for them which seems reasonable considering the ridiculous prices the seperate pedals go for these days. I'm selling to fund some new hardware and onboard pre-amp for my main axe, so I'm not interested in trades this time, sorry.. Shipping from Belgium. Sales pitch: Up for sale is this magnificant duo of rare pedals made by Spencer at 3 Leaf Audio. The Proton is his take on the Mutron III filter and it doesn't get much funkier than this! The Doom is a unique sounding fuzz that is extremely dynamic and can get supersynthy. When combined these pedals offer a wide variety of funky and synthy sounding tones that are used by lany great artist that are looking to get someyhing "extra" out of their pedalboard (think of Stuart Zenders work with Jamiroquai, Tim Lefebre, Janek Gwizdala,...) Due to the very limited production these are very hard to come by and they keep going up in value, so finding a set like these two is quite a rare opportunity. Both pedals come with the original packaging and can be shipped worldwide. Kind regards, Don
  13. I've had a couple of pickguards from Brian / earlpilanz and they are both perfect. I will soon be ordering a custom one for one of my epiphone casinos in single ply transparent tortoiseshell. The only thing holding me back from placing the order is my inability to decide whether I also want to order one for my other casino, and if so, what colour. I doubt I'll ever be inclined to order a custom pickguard from anyone else.
  14. Well, I might have offended someone when I admitted that I like playing Kpop basslines...
  15. Hi, yes I am still looking for a t20 guitar body template 👍🏼
  16. American Professional II Jazz Bass V, Maple Fingerboard, Roasted Pine. Almost brand new and excellent condition barely taken out side of case. Was bought with the intention of gigging but never happened. Slight accidental nick at the top of the bass. Doesnt affect sound in anyway. Pricing very low for (BC users) for quick sell and I dont want to negotiate.

  17. Great basslines can also be one-off phenomena, like Slave To The Rhythm by Grace Jones, played by Luis Jardim (RIP). You couldn't really point out much of a body of recorded work as a bass player for multi-instrumentalist Luis, but he was obviously a terrific player and that track alone must be one of the standout bass parts of the 1980's, and that was the decade of the standout bass part. Players like that will most likely be overlooked, as will session musicians who were guitar and bass doublers, like the late great Tommy Cogbill. But like I keep saying, I'll be watching avidly and enjoying whatever crumbs of comfort and inspiration this series has to offer. Bear in mind I regularly spend an hour or more watching brain dead British couples deciding if they want to sell their pre-war semi in Slough and move to Post-war semi in Swindon with a bigger garden and sufficient room to add an incontinence-themed extension ( pending planning permission). I'm sure I'll be glued to this bass fest.
  18. No not a virtuoso, but he makes the most of his abilities in a really musical way. Adam Clayton knows how to play to the strengths of the instrument, and that's something that can elude some very technically-able players.
  19. This evening I was rehearsing on guitar with the rockabilly band that I recently joined. The guy who runs the band plays upright bass and has a very clear vision of what he wants. My job is to work out what that is (mainly old-school but not slavish copies) and deliver. Fortunately it seems I can do that more often than not. Previously I’ve played my Gretsch Duo Jet but tonight I tried my Palir Titan C4 (Cabronita T-style) which was great, and my Jazzmaster, which in sound terms wasn’t right for that band. I realise I’m talking to bass players here so you probably want to know about the BL’s bass. It’s blond, that’s all I can tell you.
  20. Greatest bass lines? Try those played by James Jamerson, Larry Graham, Bernard Edwards, Duck Dunn, Nathan East, Carol Kaye. . . . You can almost guarantee none of these players will be included!
  21. Fender blacktop jazz bass. Only played a few times, excellent condition. Includes original fender hard case. Made in Mexico, 2013 model. Champagne/pearl colour. I have swapped the pick guard for the purple tortoise shell. Original black pick guard comes with sale. A few of the pick guard screws have some rust on. All specs can be seen in the last few pictures. Sad to get rid of it but I am no longer the bassist in a band so have little use for it. Sounds incredible, the dual split coil pick ups give an amazing tone. Any questions feel free to ask.
