Warwick Red's are a good set of strings for very little money, used to use them for a while, then tried some others which just sounded better. Elites Stadium Steels used to be pretty good, and are reasonably priced. Current faves are D'Addario Pro Steels, but they aren't cheap. Amazon have a 4 string set for around £28-29, where bizarrely, a 5 string set is £26. IMO, they consistently sound great, and last for months.

I have knocked £10 off this as I realised that the "New" prices I was looking at generally included postage As per title, a "Skytec" 25M stage box. Pick up preferred, but could post (parcel force 48 hour) for an an additional £20. (It weighs just over 15kg) These typically seem to be about £140 new. This is a traditional Marshall 15", 150 Watts combo. This is the earlier British built B150, not the later foreign built MB150 First the bad news: No light weight speaker, no Class D amplifier, so it comes in as 35Kg (and is quite big). Exterior is a bit battered, but nothing major. Apart from that if it is all positive. This is fully functional (just checked it) and would be ideal for "fixed" installation such as a studio or practice room, as a fixed backline in a pub or something, or for a younger man than I now am!. This served me well as my main stage amp for many years, and was the first time I experienced actual trouser flapping! Sealed cabinet which has since been stuffed (by me) with wadding. Side handles were added by me due to the weight. 150 (Marshall) Watts as it stands, with no possibility for extension cabs. To me the main feature of this combo is that it has a real valve pre-amp, which makes a really noticable difference to the tone - so much so that the blend knob (between valve & SS) is actually useful. Not like some modern units with valve pre amps that seem to make bugger all difference. Inputs for Active & Passive basses. SS/Valve Blend control Bass and treble controls 7 Band Graphic EQ Deep and Bright Buttons Switchable limiter In-built compressor NO remote control possibillities however. Attached manual details the controls. Note that the original handle has one of its end covers missing. Due to its weight: COLLECTION ONLY, but that gives you the chance to try it out. NOTE THAT: As part of the clear out I will soon be listing: Laney 100W 15" combo. Behringer BEQ3012 two channel 32 band equaliser with feedback detection. This is a traditional Laney 15", 100 Watts combo. First the bad news: No light weight speaker, no Class D amplifier, so it comes in as 30Kg (and is quite big). (But slightly lighter than the Marshall B150 that I am listing) It has a gouge in the tolex near the left hand side handle. Apart from that if it is all positive. This is fully functional (just checked it) and would be ideal for "fixed" installation such as a studio or practice room, as a fixed backline in a pub or something, or for a younger man than I now am!. Not used this much and only bought it (rashly) because it was available This is actually quite a different beast to the Marshall B150 that I am also listing (separate thread). Amp is 100 Watts into 4 ohms. Amp has socket for additional speaker, so possibly internal speaker is 8 ohm. I'm not sure. Ported Cabinet. All solid state (no valve preamp) Remotely selectable Pre Shape. NO Classic Bass & Treble controls, but ... Remotely selectable 10 Band Graphic EQ with in/out volume adjustment. Dual band (?) compressor Switchable limiter Switchable noise gate Manual, such as it is, attached. Due to its weight: COLLECTION ONLY, but that gives you the chance to try it out. NOTE THAT: As part of the clear out I am/will soon be listing: Marshall Bass state B150 15" combo. Behringer BEQ3012 two channel 32 band equaliser with feedback detection. 4u ABS flight case Two Shermann PA cabinets (15" + 6" + tweeter). These speakers must go, so I have reluctantly dropped the price to £250. i.e. £125 each. This is an absolute bargain, a Behringer 15" PA speaker would cost you this much. (Though admittedly the Behringer is a lot lighter). First the bad news: These are traditonal technology speakers - No light weight speakers or cabinets. Hence these weigh in at 46Kg each, which is why I am moving them on, just too heavy for me to lug around anymore. Also the foam fronts are completely shot and need replacing if you want foam fronts. Apart from that if it is all positive. These are Shermann speakers, serious professional bits of kit - see the reviews. I know that almost everything claims to be professional these days, but these really are. These speakers are 770mm high 480mm wide at the font and 250mm wide at the back. and weigh 46Kg each!. They are probably about 30 years old, so traditional technology & design, hence the weight. Not the sort of weight I want to be lugging about anymore, hence moving them on. Can't see it on the photgraph, but I believe that the 15" bass units are Beyma, the tweeters and the 6.5" mirange are both Audix. Shermann informed me that they are 8 ohm, and are good for at least 400W RMS each (See attached notes from Shermann). The man at shermann said he'd be looking at using a 600W/chanell amp with them. Despite being 30 years old these still sound as good as ever, as far as I can tell. They were oginally installed at the Theatr Hafren, Newtown, Powys, and we bought them from Shermann when they we theatre was being upgraded. - and had top hats fitted at the same time. I have used them in folk dance bands (including a sousaphone) and rock bands for front of house - easily enough to fill a typical pub or village hall, and even used them outside in a pub garden and for PA and background music on a village playing field. They have also been used as side-fill foldback on a pretty large stage. The weight is a downside, for portable use, but they would be ideal for someone considerably younger/stronger than me, or for use in a permanent installation. Unlikely to need subs with these unless you are a dub nut or something. One of my tests for a PA system is the human voice, and these are brilliant for that,i.e. apart from the volume you wouldn't know that they are there! I attach various photos. As I say I'm looking for £350 for the pair. As you will have guessed, pickup only, but that gives you the chance to try them out! Due to its weight: COLLECTION ONLY, but that gives you the chance to try it out. NOTE THAT: As part of the clear out I have listed/will soon be listing: Laney 100W 15" combo. Did people get signature instruments and gear in the past because of their musical prowess or was it more of a commercial decision based of how much units they’d shift. I’m not sure that anything’s changed in that respect.

Higgie started following FS: Pedaltrain Nano x2, Rockboard Duo 2.0

Here for sale I have 2 Pedaltrain Nanos and a Rockboard Duo 2.0 Nano 1 Bought for a client's pedalboard build, they decided to add another pedal on at the last minute, so we had to go for something bigger. I've literally applied the velcro, and that's it! Totally as new, tag still attached. With the newer style bag. £45 posted Nano 2 Older model with the older bag, has Pedalboard Tape applied. £30 posted. Rockboard Duo 2.0 Even smaller than the Nano, with more room underneath. I love the Rockboards. I've got 2 more of these as I was planning a fleet of mini boards, but now that I'm using a Quad Cortex, my Tres 3.0 has come out of retirement, so one of the Duos is now redundant. Comes bare with no velcro applied, never gigged and the bag is immaculate. Will also include the TRS Mini Mod for the side jack input. £40 posted. Pics coming soon. Cheers!

It's an autocorrect fail. It should have said "I don't think anyone could say his style isn't distinctive." Anyways, edited my post. -

Richard R started following Fender amp grill cloth replacement
-
Hi All, A friend of mine has a well loved Fender Rumble 40 which she uses as an on stage monitor at church with the DI to the PA. However the grill cloth is damaged and needs replacement. Her dad wants to do this as a surprise, and seems to think I might be competent to help! Fender style cloth will cost about £40-£60, but I don't think she's fussed about an exact match on the cloth, just the grey colour, which means cheaper options are available. This looked pretty good to me. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pewihyer-Protective-Dustproof-Replacement-Speakers/dp/B0FF327BYT Any suggestions on cloth? How hard is it to get the cab apart to change the cloth? Or does the grill just lever forwards? Thanks as always!

Philly started following GMR Soundboard 5 string
-
Lovely looking and playing GMR 5 string for sale. Black flamed maple top with matching headstock. I recently got this in a trade, but have just bit the bullet and got a Dingwall 5, so I desperately need to recoup funds and space. 34” scale, 19mm string spacing, bartolini pick ups and good quality black hardware. Plus it has the recessed strap buttons and strap locks. Its active with a two band eq. The good It’s lightweight, well balanced, sounds great. Great flame and great condition on the front, few knocks around the edges, but not bad. The bad There was some lacquer cracks on the back of the bass, so the previous owner decided to strip it back some lacquer and added a vinyl wrap over it in case of any further cracking. Sounded odd to me initially but when you see it, it is absolutely fine and a good idea. I feel this is reflected in the price. Any questions or further pictures required just ask!

I was offered a short run of gigs as a rhythm guitarist a couple of years ago. I had a Squire Tele but I fancied a back-up and bought a Les Paul kit from Thomann. I expected to have to replace the pick-ups and possibly the tuners (and use a decent set of strings). I was very pleasantly surprised by the overall quality (considering it was less than £100) and with some advice from a carpenter mate regarding the finishing (I wanted a natural oil finish) I had a nice, playable guitar with a decent sound from the stock parts (and Ernie Ball strings). It took me a long afternoon to put the guitar together to the point that it was playable and I used it for half the set of the first gig the following day. I then took it apart to sand and stain the body and neck, which took a few more days (drying between coats took the longest time). By the time the second gig arrived, I used it for the whole night and the Tele was relegated to spare. I have replaced the pickups since and I managed to snap the top of the pickup selector switch which has now been replaced as well. I'll never be a luthier (my carpenter mate stifled a giggle when he saw the way the finish had turned out - a little messy and uneven in small patches - but he is a perfectionist), but I have been contemplating a bass kit as my experience with the LP was positive and thoroughly enjoyable.
