    I love the SF Jazz Collective version Jobim's 'Chega De Saudade' from their 2018 album of Jobim tunes. The vibes player on this, Warren Wolf, is a new name for me (I had assumed it was Steve Nelson and had not checked until today) and the opening choruses of Wolf and pianist Ed Simon are thrilling.     I think most of the DNA on this bass belongs to Fred Thomas, as he played it most and last. Pretty funky player though. When JB fired Bootsy he was escorted from the building. Looks like he left the bass behind and Fred used it from then on.

    Update - they are off. I played in a hot venue and had to tune every song, then I read more about breakages. I have put a set of Evahs on for now until I get the courage to put the Animas back on. Got me thinking I need another bass to try strings..

    Given my avatar I will obviously be putting the car and children up for sale immediately so I can buy this and then learn how to extract DNA from skin cells left on the strings and create a serum to inject into myself so I can not only play like Bootsy but also have his voice.     Put this together on a Pedaltrain Nano+ as I wanted something simple that was easy to move about etc, and it’s made me remember how much keeping things simple is also much better! The MXR Synth is on there for now, but I don’t really need it for the gigs I use this board for. I am likely going to buy the Tonex One Bass Edition (I have the big Tonex but it’s size is obviously no good for this) and run it in the FX loop of the stomp & I’m also going to take the Synth out and put a standalone compressor on there (Source Audio Atlas for an all digital board maybe!). I can then also drop the ‘Magnum DI’ and I’ll get an adapter and run the XLR out the Stomp, but this does 90-95% of what I need for almost any gig, and so I’ll be using this most the time. I want to make an all analogue board too next as I quite fancy pointlessly wasting nearly £500 on the B15 Bassrig - I know there’s no need at all, but I’m gonna get one anyway it looks/sounds bloody awesome haha 😁

    It is a very unsettling situation and I've never been happy with bandmates going plotting behind other people's backs, having been the victim of that kind of thing, after playing with a couple of very slippery people in the past. Gettng your bandmates to be open and honest about this could blow the whole band apart. Could your existing member improve? Why the wait until the new year to replace him? I would at least say you're not entirely comfortable with the way it is being done and that the wait to try the new person makes you nervous. Good luck.

    The way that certain strings work on certain basses and some don't is somewhat of a mystery to me. On my Fender Mustang I have tried Fender short scale 95-40(only gauge Fender do then in) Daddario and Ernie Ball short scale strings both in a more standard gauge (105-45 or 105-50, I can't remember) all of which have not quite sounded right. Of the short scale sets the Fender set sounded the least meh so I ordered a 105-45 set of long scale Fender strings with the intention of cutting them down to fit, I put them on and all of a sudden that bass came to life, Strange how that works

    Eagles tribute gigs for the last couple of nights. First, Queen's Hall, Edinburgh. It's a gorgeous hall with a lot of history. House PA, extremely good engineer, great lights Best of all, though: 800 people in... on a Thursday night! Hats off to the promoter. Last night was a lovely theatre outside of Whitehaven. A little more cramped, but another very enjoyable night. I used my new (but not new) 1996 MIA Jazz RI, and it's a Bobby Dazzler. Love it. The only downside was the van breaking down as we left Whitehaven. I finally got home just before 5am 😅 💤

    Hey gang For a while now I've been on the hunt for a J to use on my Eagles tribute gig. I picked this up a few days ago, and - ever-wary that you don't quite know what a bass really sounds like until you've gigged it - after a couple of shows I've happily torn the plastic film off the pickguard. It's absolutely lovely. Light, resonant, even across the neck, and sits perfectly in the mix. A nice smooth top, with a lovely growl when you slide and dig in. Happy days.

    Friday lunchtime in a central Bournemouth church. We do it twice a year and share the retiring collection with the venue. Church has a regular audience for the music and we add to it - have had 100 folk before but 65 was just fine given the season. The promoter got up to sing on Mojo Workin’ and we played two encores. One of which debuted Time Is Tight. Love a bit of Booker T… Gear: Flea Jazz (currently in ‘for sale’ section), GK MB200 through Barefaced Two10.
