hey bud. Cheers for responding and the advise. have been playing it all day. I found ways to hear that warmth in either blue contour or amber. With amber I had contour at around 2 o’clock, bass boosted a tad and treble rolled off at 11 o’clock. blue (which I really like in my place) contour around 10’clock, boost the mids a tad with sweep at 2 o’clock and reduce the treble a tad. my tone knob on bass is nearly closed. more to learn. My ocd would like to know where 250,500 and 800hz is in the mids sweepable frequency lol.

Or perhaps someone could bring along their Dreek speaker cables so that I can A/B them with the ones I get from Thomann? https://www.amazon.co.uk/DREEK-Oxygen-free-Copper-Speaker-Banana/dp/B0DCW6B6KJ/ref=sr_1_10?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.TwpBafzm7iPvROCU55cQ5egNaLoIuYadiThjNyepE_LvPYbSHr2aCST_XuC1Z5x03BeEfS1s_52YVEIC76CT963L9iVCYuIln2gaK7o2l8RpMs3otJ-oIU5_fspGJ_ljvO57vHy28yLjDSm4UZRekI9qZEEleFQekYUMBY2E6q8D05Yee18qPtDR9azNZE9oUVB334lu-Ki-OZR4tXMmbQ2syqc4OyvjFhrHNS0fmpQ.dWseN6_pVgNIpfU8bTEiX62sMShHAjzEHQTHZHKkgy4&dib_tag=se&keywords=oxygen%2Bfree%2Bcopper%2Bspeaker%2Bcable&qid=1752962206&refinements=p_36%3A66000-&rnid=118657031&sr=8-10&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.d7e5a2de-8759-4da3-993c-d11b6e3d217f&th=1 -

I use a Magellan 350 with a 10-2 cab or two Genz Benz 12’s depending on where I’m playing. Warmth is very dependent on context, for boomy stages with the bigger cabs there is often too much of that warmth and I have to dial the lows back and use a high pass filter. The 10-2 cab tends to sound great in any context, the older cabs need a little more attention. Either way I have the mids on the blue setting most of the time at around 11 o’clock, treble is rolled off a tiny bit, and the rest depends on the acoustics in the venue. For context I mostly play jazz either on a P, a PJ or short scales.

I have a high end bass collection 4 string fretless, it spends most of its time in a case, I used to play fretless 70% of the time but in the last 10 years or so it has been 100% fretted work, I do miss playing it and really ought to dig it out and give it some love again

My speaker cabinets of choice are Acme B2 three way 2x10. They are a bit inefficient so require a lot of power for them to sing at their best. I se a 2KW capable Class D power amp but, loving tubes, I designed and built a two channel full tube pre-amp to drive it. Together they sound wonderful! If I could procure a stereo tube power amp with 400W per channel I'd use it in a heartbeat - IF I could lift it! LOL

Doing that BOC transcription reminded me that I have never tried this. A ten-minute transcription of Kasim Sulton's bass part for the track, 'Bat Out Of Hell' from the 1977 Meatloaf album of the same name. Sometimes, the motivation to try transcribing something is because it is there! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/bat-out-of-hell-meatloaf/

As said many times before: alcohol earliest after the gig. You are there for them. Give the best out of you, not the worst. Do not change anything that may change itself a day before the gig like strings. You can change a battery a week or two before. Then you can be sure that it works flawlessly. A new battery may be bad, seen this a couple of times. A quality cable is a must. A spare one is needed by a g-word player - sooner or later. And as said earlier: have fun. Everybody sees your feeling, and feels it in your music. If you go and see professionals, they can create a good sounding feeling no matter what. Do not care about tiny failures, they feel big only at the stage. Go forward, and do it boldly! P. S. Buy a quickly adjustable metronome to your drummer, and let him write tempos to the set list. You will love your drummer from that on. For example Tama RW30 can be quickly set. It is an investment, not a cost to you, believe me.

Was it one of these @Gasman? I'm guessing if you were that local to me it might've been an old band mate's company All The Kit. I've never had the pleasure of playing under the half 'igloo'.

A very dear friend of mine has this music. He plays every instrument you hear on this record as he does on others..
