  2. The way that certain strings work on certain basses and some don't is somewhat of a mystery to me. On my Fender Mustang I have tried Fender short scale 95-40(only gauge Fender do then in) Daddario and Ernie Ball short scale strings both in a more standard gauge (105-45 or 105-50, I can't remember) all of which have not quite sounded right. Of the short scale sets the Fender set sounded the least meh so I ordered a 105-45 set of long scale Fender strings with the intention of cutting them down to fit, I put them on and all of a sudden that bass came to life, Strange how that works
  3. Eagles tribute gigs for the last couple of nights. First, Queen's Hall, Edinburgh. It's a gorgeous hall with a lot of history. House PA, extremely good engineer, great lights Best of all, though: 800 people in... on a Thursday night! Hats off to the promoter. Last night was a lovely theatre outside of Whitehaven. A little more cramped, but another very enjoyable night. I used my new (but not new) 1996 MIA Jazz RI, and it's a Bobby Dazzler. Love it. The only downside was the van breaking down as we left Whitehaven. I finally got home just before 5am 😅 💤
  4. The Sadowsky can also be a used purchase if you end up down that route. https://bassbros.co.uk/product/2024-sadowsky-metroexpress-21-vintage-jj-5-2/
  5. Hey gang For a while now I've been on the hunt for a J to use on my Eagles tribute gig. I picked this up a few days ago, and - ever-wary that you don't quite know what a bass really sounds like until you've gigged it - after a couple of shows I've happily torn the plastic film off the pickguard. It's absolutely lovely. Light, resonant, even across the neck, and sits perfectly in the mix. A nice smooth top, with a lovely growl when you slide and dig in. Happy days.

  7. Stutter Rap - Morris Minor and the Majors
  8. When I saw them I was struck by the minimal communication with the audience. That sounds very different.

  10. Hi All I am looking for a good all round combo or cab/head amp for jazz, slap and rock (mainly home practice at the moment but hopefully looking to be in a band set up within the next 12 months). I am looking at the Fender Rumble combo (100w). Any thoughts or other suggestions? Many thanks, Paul
  11. Friday lunchtime in a central Bournemouth church. We do it twice a year and share the retiring collection with the venue. Church has a regular audience for the music and we add to it - have had 100 folk before but 65 was just fine given the season. The promoter got up to sing on Mojo Workin’ and we played two encores. One of which debuted Time Is Tight. Love a bit of Booker T… Gear: Flea Jazz (currently in ‘for sale’ section), GK MB200 through Barefaced Two10.
  12. A highly interesting and fantastic amp: I ordered the Sisma directly from Jad Freer a while ago. Loud, warm, fat—really awesome! The preamp is based on the legendary Ampeg B15 amp, combining a warm, vintage-like sound with modern features and, of course, significantly less weight. The amp is truly phenomenal, but—I don't play any vintage or Fender-style basses—I'm perfectly happy with my Glockenklang Blue Bird and Vanderkley Spartan. So this fantastic amp is up for grabs and will hopefully be put to good use. I took it to a few rehearsals and two gigs. With less than 20 hours of use, the amp is in absolutely pristine condition and easily passes for new. Save some money and skip the 20 weeks waiting… Specs: Tube preamp based on the iconic B15 sound, studio grade D.I. and Fx Loop, proprietary transistor analog class G power section with high quality switching power supply. 700W @ 4Ohm / 350W @ 8Ohm / 950w @2Ohm Only 3,9Kg – 8.5 lbs. / 25 × 28.5 × 6 cm – 9.8”x 11,2”x 2,3” inch SISMA is the first official bass amp released by Jad Freer Audio which aim to combine the qualities of a classic tube preamp with the punchy and detailed sound reproduction of a big transistor power section maintaining a portability prerogative, until now, only of class D technology. Tube preamp based on the iconic B15 sound Proprietary transistor analog class G power section with high quality switching power supply. 700W @ 4Ohm / 350W @ 8Ohm / 950w @2Ohm in only 3,9 Kg – 8.5 lbs. 20. A buddy of mine was telling me he didn't like the chunkiness of the beautiful flamed and birdseye maple neck on his Stingray. By chance I have a Stingray with a thinner Status Graphite neck that looks a bit out of place on my honeyburst Stingray, so I offered to switch them. I don't have any photos of the red Stingray before, but I think they both look phenomenal now:

  22. For sale lovely birch green Fender player 2 i bought early this year and have recently been using this or P bass to see what fits what i'm doing and the P bass has won - for that middy growl. Have bought a Squire CV Jag as back up - so now this faces being an occasional bass and it's a great player, so should be someones to use. Made in Mexico these are now really good little basses. Great QC Had luthier sort the frets, which he levelled and ran glue under each to make sure they pinged and bevelled off the slightly rough edges, basically your getting a Plex job but done by the hands of someone with 40 years experience. So now with the rolled edge finger board, satin finish, it is great to play. Dark rosewood board, with maple neck, the body colour looks even better IRL. Weighs about 8.5lb but balances great. So lightweight and versatile. Strung with new Ernie Ball Super Slinky 40-100 - very nice action. Very useable pickups. Comfortable bridge for palm muting. Priced to sell - collect from Clitheroe or meet up or can post to UK in box for £20
