Just got back in from depping on a gig as part of a big fundraising evening for a cancer charity in Leicester’s Winstanley House. Lovely venue, huge room. Pretty late gig, starting at 10pm, but people were still up for a dance and it was pretty lively. Got completely lost in the dark trying to get out (I’ve only lived in Leicester for 20 years….) and was gonna find a McDonald’s on way home but it was super late and I couldn’t be bothered. Gear was my old vintage P bass with its new Labella DTB flats, thru the usual Markbass traveller rig and pedal board. Footwear was by Clarks. Black jeans by M&S.

I put my dislike of compression solely down to me being too rubbish to know how to use it properly.

Yep, at many gigs I did where the promoters hired in gear often it was Ashdown, which was the reason I started using it as the sound was good, but there is also the thought that hire companies will want reliable gear on their books, which was another factor for me. -
Cort Elrick NSJ5 great basses that tend to get overlooked for some reason.

Just got in from my last Spacewasters gig as a full band member (I will be depping for them next year for one gig). Was at The Milton Arms, Southsea, Portsmouth, supporting The Witchdoktors (great band btw). The Witchdoktors provided the backline which was very decent of them, we only had to provide cymbal stands, so made for an easy gig, our drummer drove so all good there. We played well and went down well, though it wasn’t as large an audience as when we’d previously played there, even on pay day, maybe people holding onto cash for Xmas. I played my JMJ Mustang through an Orange Crush (I think) combo, which sounded very nice. Footwear was DM Chelsea/Dealer boots. And now back indoors, well I hurt all over, really reinforcing that my leaving is the right decision, a real shame but I’ve had 4 great years with the band, am so glad I joined them for those years.

I've grabbed the free Waves offer:- https://www.waves.com/plugins/magma-stressbox but I ahven't had the activation email yet. I grabbed Waves IDX last year for free, that is a pretty stunning plug-in, it's up there with Korneff's El Juan, another plugin I managed to snag free and use on pretty much everything. Hmm, I think I got Clarity VX free too... I use Clarity or Izotope's RX Essentials on all of my videos for super clean lav recording.

I remember back in 2009 ordering a Metro direct from Sadowsky in New York. The bass was a new RV5 and a bargain at £1500 shipped!!!!. How times have changed. Sounds awesome BTW.

Bear in mind that wood with a paint finish will have a different overall radius to wood with a rat-fur finish. I'd start with the corner radius and work out the wood edge radius to suit. David

Martin Barre and friends. Acoustic show and last minute as a friend had to cry off last minute so I took it on. Very enjoyable evening.

The review says it all: comprehensive, US published and hard to find. Price is UK posted, unread condition. Now £16. EVEN LOWER! £14 posted. Times And Seasons - The Rise and Fall and Rise of the Zombies Robin Platts HoZac Books, $31.99 356 pages Classic British pop, expertly chronicled Few books on the Zombies exist, but theirs is a story worth telling. And it's predictable that, given their Stateside star status, this quintessentially English quintet of She's Not There and Tell He No fame should be chronicled on an American imprint. The band only hung up its touring shoes last year after leader/keyboardist Rod Argent's stroke, but the work he and singer Colin Blunstone created after their reunion in 2001 - the years since 1968 being silent, in a Zombies sense - are also covered in detail by author Platts. The band always had a youthful camaraderie, having come together at high school, and that comes over faithfully in this account of their heyday - plus a long tail that details their subsequent musical careers. While Blunstone went solo and Argent created an eponymous prog band (of God Gave Rock And Roll To You fame), guitarist Paul Atkinson went behind the scenes and signed Abba to CBS - a feather in anyone's cap. Detail is forensic without being stifling. If the layout is a trifle fanzine-y, the integration of illustrative material like press cuttings and photos with the text helps make this an easy read. And the urge to play the music, always the sign of a good book, is irresistible. -
