Regrettably selling my trusty Darkglass Microtubes Infinity. It’s in good overall condition with a couple of very small scuffs either side of the front edge of the unit. Velcro on underside. Perfect operational condition and syncs well with the Darkglass Suite. Original box included. Price is £325. Collection from my home in SE19, South London or can post at cost. Thanks for looking.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?

My best purchase was my Spector Euro 4 LX from a member of this forum. Not only does it look amazing but it feels great to play and the tones I can get from it are brutal. My worst purchase was a Behringer sansamp clone. The first one didn't work at all, the replacement just sounded crap. The worst drive sound I've ever heard. Nothing like a sansamp -

Vigier, the fingerboard has a preset relief carved into it which means it's thinner around the upper frets than in the lower ones. It's completely unnecessary because if a player wants high action they can tweak a truss rod. But a preset neck relief means there's no way to make the action lower than the relief. -
Does it make you talk sh!te about other musicians, too?

Bass direct had a social media post showing lots of them in stock - might be worth checking there if you want it quicker.

I use a 4" wide Pinegrove. I bought it to solve the slight neck dive on my Spector (it has a grippy suede liner that helps prevent it slipping), but I find it very comfortable. It's thick leather, decently padded and very nicely made (in the UK, with UK-sourced materials, too, which is a bonus).

I do like the look of the aura pearl but a 5 would be much better.

Funnily enough, a 10cc lyric popped into my head half an hour ago, and I realised where Trump had got the idea for the White House ballroom from. The very first line of the song...

I know it depends on the band and how loud the players are, the size of the space you need to fill and whether you have PA support, but I don't reckon a 1x10 or even a 1x12 would be loud enough for a rock band. Modern gear is unquestionably much more efficient than a lot of old school stuff, but there are limits - the laws of physics, Jim and all that. If you have a reasonable amount burning a hole in your pocket, you really should go and try/audition some gear. I appreciate that there may not be a wide choice in the Highlands, but buying on the basis of recommendation alone is often a route to disappointment. Rumbles are a standard recommendation, with good reason. They are portable and good value. However, they do sound a bit generic and I don't think one would improve on what you have. If you like your MAG 210, keep it. 22kg is hardly a behemoth and a quality folding trolley would make life easier and cost far less than new gear.

Ah yes, being unforgivably Anglocentric. It’s all those years being told I live in the Midlands!

I'm a regular user of Marketplace but I don't have high hopes of it. You are largely trawling the bottom of the pool, people clearing out their houses of unwanted trash. Pricing is all over the place and I've seen a lot of stuf where the asking price is more than the new price. You aren't buying from experts by and large. In the case of basses a lot of the stuff is parents selling off starter instruments. Most musicians wouldn't expect a top price through FB and are going to advertise elsewhere, like on Bass Chat . On the plus side a lot of people don't know what they are selling so you'll sometimes see a real bargain pop up. I might sell my Cort Action bass on Marketplace but I'm not going to sell my MIA Fender Deluxe that way. If I was going ot use FB I'd go to some of the FB groups that specialise in buying selling Musical instruments. Having said that I've picked up some quality PA gear on Marketplace including a pair of RCF ART745's as new, and in RCF cases for £1200. Anyway if @neepheid buys any more basses he's going to need a bigger truck next time he comes down here, what a fabulous collection

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?

My best bass purchase – also my only major one – was the battered Hohner "The Jack" that I bought off here in June. It gave me a fun project to while away the summer afternoons and has turned out to be a really lovely bass. Here's the "before" pic. And here's the after: I've been pleasantly surprised by how good it sounds. My expectation was that it would be light, practical and a bit bland. And, well, it sort of is, but in a good way. I've never played a bass with p-bass pickups much before (these pickups are reverse Ps in humbucker cases), but I'm starting to get the appeal. My other fretted bass has a MM pickup and a really aggressive sound. It sounds amazing when everything's just so, but can be very finicky. The Hohner just sounds, er, solid, I guess. A nice smooth sound, almost like it's been compressed and tweaked already. I can just run it straight into my interface and be perfectly satisfied. The worst purchase would be Montana Color "Fire Red" paint. This turned out to be a shade of red no-one's ever seen in a fire or indeed anywhere outside of the Barbie dream house. -

My oldest lad has a nylon strung 3/4 size which he learned on before moving up to electric. Been in its case for ages. But we took it camping in the summer as it’s nice and small and it was perfect for campfire noodling.
