Another one someone asked for, Mel Schacher's bass part for 'Footstompin' Music' by Grand Funk Railroad from the 1971 album, 'E Pluribus Funk'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/footstompin-music-grand-funk-railroad/

It's increasingly obvious to me that I am entering my second childhood. This is a Kasim Sulton performance of the tune 'E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)' which I took from a live Blue Öyster Cult video on YouTube. This track takes me back to listening to the band's live album, 'Some Enchanted Evening' when I was a kid. I always loved the harmonies on this track and the verse riff is sick. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/e-t-i-blue-oyster-cult/

Has to be keyboards. They have enormous harmonic range and can play up to ten notes simultaneously (more if the keys player uses a foot...). Fine if you're playing a solo piece. You can have a bass part, chordal accompaniment and melody all at once. In a band context, it can be a nightmare. We've been having this discussion with our keys player recently. He's good, but not very experienced. A a result, he tends to fill too much space, clashing with the other instruments. We're educating him slowly.

For sale in very good used condition my 1000watt neo 4x8 cab. It's weighs in at around 22kg single hand lift and carry (if not too far)! Super punchy cab and seems to naturally sit in the mix easier than many cabs I've used. The only flaw is the speakon input isn't working but both jack sockets are. Its 8 ohm so can be coupled with a 15 for a lovely full range sound. I have used it with my ashdown 2x10 combo which made a great rig. Hartke amp is for size ref only although is for sale separately (deal to be done)?? Postage is possible if sorted by the buyer. Robust packaging assured. Cheers

I had the Magellan 800 head and it’s an awesome amp for sure Build quality, quiet fan, EQ that works and mine had drive too but I rarely used it. This and the Eich T900 were amongst my favourite amps for allowing your bass to sound like your bass !

I've pulled together four live clips all using the RCF 932As (with no sub) for one indoor and 3 outdoor gigs, recorded through a Rode stereo mic into a Sony s6300. Compared to my previous 912As (which I've held onto as a very capable back up rig) I think the 932s do let the vox shine whilst maintaining a meaty low end. Let me know if you agree?

If you think you never overplay, it might be you.

I wanted to upgrade my setup. I originally wanted a tone hammer with a barefaced one 10 but I couldn’t find a barefaced near me to play and see how I like it. I LOVE the tone of the ashdown abm evo IV heads but for home and jamming its over kill. The genzler combo with carry bag came up and decided to give it a try. It’s surprised me with how it’s shown me how articulate my p bass is (Bart pickups & chrome flats). The setup is transparent, responsive and articulate even up the neck, something I haven’t heard before. This is the first amp head and speaker where even with my tone knob on bass turned down I get a really full articulate sound, not muddy boomy sound with no note definition. The EQ is near always at noon “flat” I play fingerstyle funk, r&b, fusion kinda jazz lol (melodic phrasing). This setup makes me want to play more jazz melodic music. The sound is amazing. Still trying to see how to get a tad more warmth from this amp and cab. It’s also near impossible to clip the gain light so figuring out configurations. The contour circuit is very useful. The blue circuit to my ears smooths things out where the amber boosts the mids and compresses bass and treble. anyone which a Magellan head or similar setup, what’s your settings like for the genre for funk, r&b, Motown stuff? cheers

Just received another pedal from Chris, it was a good price and he kept me informed every step of the way.

Here we go, it's had a number of changes over the years, it started out fretted, with a rickenbacker copy bridge and just the one pickup, then it's had a Dimarzio Model One, a Hammon Darkstar, then my homebuilt single coil under the mudbucker cover, and the toaster added.

Harp players never know when to stop blowing. Guitarists never have control of their volume. Neither do drummers. Drummer are always putting in fills that don't fit. Keyboard players don't understand that 2 bass lines don't work. . . . in any song. . . . ever!! Last week, I saw a quote from an engineer; "The best engineers have the simplest solutions". You could say the same about musicians, and definitely about bass players. The simplest lines are always the best. The spaces say more about your ability than the notes. Overplaying is a curse and the only way to fix it is to play with guys who don't.

Will has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. Clear communication, knows his gear and did a great packaging job on the amp. I’m always nervous about couriers handling amps (or anything!) but no worries at all this time. Thanks again 😎

So here's a game I play roughly once a year. I list a whole bunch of gear for sale (really not wanting to sell any of it you understand) and once a few things have actually sold 😩 I let the remaining listings slide down below the radar. Until the next time. I'm not selling because I'm desperate for the money, and if I was John Entwistle then I'd just keep the lot and have an ever-expanding collection, but the reality is that over half my gear gets used very little, if at all. Common sense says that at least some of this lovely kit should get back out in circulation. I have no interest at all in trades. Replacing an amp or cab that doesn't get used with a different amp or cab that won't get used seems like a complete waste of time and effort. On the other hand, much of my kit is pretty non-standard or left-field and therefore hard to price, so I'm not absolutely wedded to the figure stated. I'm in Harrow HA1, close to Sudbury Hill on the Piccadilly Line, and I gig regularly throughout Beds, Bucks, Herts & Middx, with occasional forays into Surrey. Pickup in person is always preferable to despatch (from home, or a mutually-convenient pub, or at one one of my gigs), but I've had nothing but good experiences with DPD so if you live more than - say - 50 miles from Harrow then that's an option. Here's the original blurb from 10 years ago: The aluminum specialists at Alusonic are getting into the bass cabinet world with the ALU112. Housed in an aircraft grade aluminum hardshell, the cab is loaded with a 12-inch aluminum cast frame woofer with a neodymium magnet. The ALU112 has an 8 ohm impedence with a nominal power handling of 400 watts RMS and continuous power handling of 600 watts RMS. The cab, which weighs in around 20 pounds, has rear bass ports and a top-mounted, recessed handle. It can be ordered with or without a one-inch compression driver, which would also add a 2.5kHz custom crossover with a variable tweeter control on the back panel. Other features include a frequency range of 32 hertz to 18 kilohertz, input and link Neutrik Speakon connections, and an epoxy-polyester finish. The Alusonic ALU112 is built in Italy. The price list for the standard version is approximately $869 while the cabinet with a tweeter goes for $995. This one has been daaaaaahn the lockup for a few months. Time to move on.
